there only needs to be 6 planes each loaded with the missing nukes.
each plane evenly spaced over the US at about 35000 feet
and detonate them. in theory it should create an EMP which will wipe out our Grids in a single shot. Also put us back to the early 1500s in technology for a few years till we could rebuild

From my understanding, 100 or so riflemen acting in a coordinated fashion do have the ability to cause a cascading outage on most of the US power grid.

The simultaneous loss of transmission substations would lead to power plants shutting down across the nation due to overload from back feed.

The 11 missing AC are not part of this threat as its been said only one has the range. The AC do present a threat to European countries though.

Every anniversary of 9/11 the hype starts... This time around with the influx of people coming from south of the border the odds might be more in favor of something happening..

Actually a couple of years ago there was some research done on the amount of Muslim Survival schools in the USA. They were supposedly trained in weapons and survival skills.. If I remember correctly there were 11 schools strictly for Muslims. Someone else can look and see if they can find anything I am not interested anymore and the number 11 might even be wrong... ?. I would think 9/11 would be a great date for the propaganda effect however with some people's fascination with the number 13 that might also be a good date to try something..

IMO if there are a few 100 or thousand dedicated Jihadist who don't want to die but do want to inflict major mayhem then it should be a fairly simple thing to send teams out to destroy transformers and cut transmission lines or fell the towers that carry them.. Power relay stations are easily found and to disrupt the power might be easier than many of us think... I dunno just thinking with the key board.

Listen, if you're happy to have your freedoms curtailed because governments like to use these threats to keep people in line, that's fine.
I'm not happy about it, and see it for what it is: one more control mechanism.

Lets look at the facts and the unknowns in this threat.

1) Border is wide open
2)grid is vulnerable, probably not the entire grid, but definitely sections could be

What we dont know is how capable these so called ISIS guys are, sure in their own part of the world they are creating havoc. But can they actually do anything even remotely like that over in the US? I just dont think they are as sophisticated as some of you are thinking. Again over in the ME, they have a lawless countryside to roam and do what they want, all their people and money is there and mainly I see the same as usual AKs, IEDs and a bunch of Toyota trucks crisscrossing the area like wild men, not very controlled or strategic with not a lot to stop them since the US and allies are not on the ground there. If they were things would be much different. They would not have that luxury over in the US and I dont think they have as many REALLY trained guys either to do what is needed over here.

I do agree we should not give up one more liberty no matter what they try to scare us with.

I have to ask this. Why do we allow these training sites here in the US? The CIA and FBI should go in charge them all with sedition and treason and put them al in jail or execute them as terrorist. I suspect if another major attack happens these camps will be decimated and their members severly punished.

They allow it so they can keep an eye on them. Anyone that thinks they dont have each and every one of these places and people that go to them tracked as well as anyone that calls, emails, etc these people as well is crazy. They know who they are, who they know and who knows them and so on. Sure some will slip through, but its like letting your teen have a party at your house instead of another so you can keep a better hold on who and what is going on. Do you see and catch everything, no of coarse not, but its a whole lot better than being at Jimmy's house where you have no clue whats going on...

The 9 out of 10 comes from the grid being down for a year... Dang! A year? That would be some take-down.

There is only a week or 2 worth of food in a major metro area at any given time. Without electricity, many of the foods we enjoy would just not be available at all and our transportation system would require time to adjust to 100% fresh foods, not to mention how would fuel be pumped, processed etc without electricity?

I see major cluster-muck should our grid go down for more than a couple of weeks even. I was in MS when Katrina hit, and I got the sense that things were on the verge of ripping off the thin veneer we call civilization, simply because there was no electricity, no gas for a week or 2. And that with the full confidence it would be brought back up ASAP.

Imagine what people would do once it sank in the grid wasn't coming back up any time soon?

It is not that they are idiots it is simply you are asking them to perform a task that is simply beyond their resources. In fact beyond the resources of just about anybody. Even the US would be hard pressed to get people into a country and conduct such an operation without getting exposed first. The smallest error or dumb luck would ruin the entire operation. That is why black ops go with keeping things as simple as possible. An operation like this has simply to many people involved in to many places. Way to many things that could go wrong to even bother trying it.

I tend to agree with your summation. Way too complicated to pull off taking down our whole grid to the degree that we could not bring it back up, with the possible exception of some localities, asap.

Most people do not understand how hard it can be to get a decent sized group of people together and pull something off, specially if it has to be kept secret throughout the process. If you include untrained people in that group, it gets even less likely.

The best opportunity to take down our grid would likely be through cyber attacks, but it is unlikely that would result in the grid being down for a major period of time.

Such a threat has to be taken seriously because the majority of the electrical system is impractical to guard 24/7 but the 9/10 thing is unrealistic unless they were counting on infighting over resources during the resulting chaos.

Just a bit of extreme weather in the right places can take out major portions of the grid for weeks as has been demonstrated by mother nature so a co-ordinated attack at vulnerable locations (requires detailed insider knowledge) without needing any exotic devices could wreak havoc in the short term.

All they need is to bring down the grid long enough to create panic in largely populated areas, then they can invoke martial law.

CIA (and whatever alphabet agency) arms "terrorists", and informs them of weakspots, and voila. Mission accomplished.

Our power grid in the USA is a piecemeal of additions to an outdated infrastructure. You can't add twisty ties to something that simply needs replaced. It's all about the money, that LOOMING 17 trillion deficit, and a slick way to get out of paying it back. We CAN'T pay it back, so there'll be one ploy after another until something succeeds.

This actually just happened in Pakistan. Over 80million without power.

A test run perhaps ?
