Its a protest against the minimum wage hike in Seattle, because unions are a big lobby behind minimum wage laws.

Labor unions often peg their negotiated wages to the minimum wage. Increases in the minimum wage can therefore trigger new wage negotiations or immediate pay hikes for unionized employees, according to research provided by the Center for Union Facts, an anti-union group.

I think people should have the right and freedom to protest anything they wish to protest.

REALLY? You think freedom to protest is a GOOD THING??? LOL

Though I am sure many will also enjoy the freedom to mock and/or deride such protests.

It's not protesting I think is hilarious, it's that they took Friday off so they could work on Labor Day! They still got their day off, by God! LOL And they think it means something! And that labor unions (the 12%) are to blame for the problems of the rest of the country (the 88%)! I could go on. There is no shortage of things to laugh at about this!

You could probably consider me a rightwinger, since im a pretty conservative libertarian.....

.......I have no idea what this is about, I cant even really wrap my head around the purpose behind deciding to work on Labor Day....

Im not a union fan either, but I just dont see the point, congrats you worked on a Holiday instead of taking it off...

Way to really put yourself out there

Actually, I've supported OWS's right to protest.

I've defended Westboro Baptist right to protest.

Defending the right to protest doesn't mean accepting what the protest is all about.

Since this thread is about the actual protest, however, I thought my post might garner some attention of the *cough* tolerant crowd.

lol

this is par for the course all across the nation....that Washington state right-wing lobbying group has an article that comes out and calls public sector unions "diseases"...so all you teachers and other union workers, are just diseases of the American economy...it's the great business leaders that brought you long hours, working on weekends, low pay, working off the clock in fear of losing your job...cutting off of health benefits, paid vacations, sick leave etc...kiss the ring of your wealthy master, or you are un-American!!!

Yeah, I know that, beez. I defend everyone's right to protest, as well. I was ribbing you. Of course they have a right to protest. I just find their tactics laughable.

Maybe it did.

They must be protesting the constant onslaught by the "Left" for the other 364 days.

Too bad the "Left" hasn't done much about good jobs since Obama has been around for 2000+ days.

Sorry to disappoint you but by no stretch of the imagination is Obama on the left of politics. Well not compared with the whole of Europe. Centre at best.

Yes Americans defend Capitalism like it was their god. They won't look at how it really affects the majority. Problem is the majority believe the ones in charge that are getting rich off of it. Trickle down economics and all. Sure give the rick more and everyone benefits. NOT since when did giving more to the rich create jobs or to the big corps. What creates jobs and spurs the economy is selling more product. How can they sell more product? Give the majority more to spend, they live pay check to paycheck and will spend all they get. Hence the corporations sell more products. They make more money and create more jobs. It's simple. But most are to blind to see. They believe those in charge they think they are the wise ones. Example once i built a high efficiency carburetor. And tried to offer it to friends and family for free. They told me it was impossible that it wasn't true. It was on my car already. I offered to let them use the car to prove it. They said if it was possible it would have been done along time ago and there were people smarter than me that would have done it that work for the car companies. WOW i offered to let them drive the car to prove it and they were in denile still. They believe those in charge and they are programmed to just be book smart and follow and not think outside the box at all. Yes i only seem to be related and know robots. I am so frustrated.

So petty and pathetic, kind of like how they brought the federal gov to a standstill and caused people to go without wages and closed public services etc.
If we don't get our way we'll stop everyone else doing anything.
Big babies .

The US doesn't truly have a left, certainly not in politics.
Most would be shocked to learn that both parties are well right of center.
conservatives just like to shout " left" "liberal" or "socialism" at anything they disagree with.

So all of our problems in America can be linked to labor unions? Really? Who is dumb enough to fall for that garbage?

I think some people are still heartsick over the collapse of the Soviet Union. It's slim pickins these days - trying to find adequate boogeymen. Seems like they've been trying to paint the face of Marxism onto anything that will hold still

They'll be teaching preschoolers about the inherent dangers of sharing soon

It was labor that built this country - a lot of it cheap and underrepresented

Labor with a voice and clout is a dangerous thing

The Mafia used to always say "there's no such thing as the Mafia" too !!

A useful tactic is to simply say an agenda doesn't exist.

Very convincing until it gets exposed.

Actually, he's correct. Both of our political parties are run by neoliberals and therefore fall on the right end of the left-right spectrum. It can be hard to discern through the rhetoric but they're not anywhere near as different as they — and often we — like to pretend. If you doubt this, look at the financial appointments Obama made a immediately after taking office.

Actually it's ultra Left Wing Progressives.

Now you understand the point.

People now must re-assess their political spectrum.

Many things change when exposed.

Gulp !!

I think people mean in reality.... not in the minds of people who are entrenched and crazy.

These are usually based off of votes cast, policies and expressed views which are in print or on camera somewhere.

I completely agree. The only thing I would add is that the unions did stray from their original purpose....to represent and protect the best interests of the workers. They injected themselves in to the political arena and it has been downhill ever since.

Unions can play an important role, making sure we don't go back to the working conditions as seen on the Chicago killing floors, but that's about it.
