A new machine waits in the wings
It's a Toshiba , a shinny new thing

The old machine , been an Acer
Driven around in Cyber Spacer

Cd draw , jammed inside
Kids broken joy ride

Windscreen's smashed , cracked ,s shattered
An adult moment , much debated

Big old monitor box , mate
Just plug in and press F8

And I find, I just can't hide
A mix of whimsy , and pride

For my faithful old car , my favourite lounge chair
Reluctantly recycled , to who knows where

Na , I will keep you in the shed as a spare .

A goodbye to my comfortable old computer

A bit weak , but it was fun

I f I could give you more stars I would , my husband told me a funny story, just a couple of hours ago, from a old bloke he knows ,
who's in a nursing home .

The old fella said to the new psych , " I like to grow daisy's myself " and that afternoon he was out of it for sometime.

Put linux on those old computers and keep using them.

There is very few viruses or malware that is made to break into linux and kids need to know how to use linux.

Its a very good learning experience for anyone and way more secure then windows.

I believe someday there may be a massive cyber attack against the US that will shut down all windows OS computers.

China is in the process of building there own OS because they do not trust windows OSs

Thankyou , but I don't know about/ understand computer stuff much , but I will keep the old girl/boy in the shed/cupboard and you never know it may get put to use again.

The new computer has good stuff for a basic user like me , so I am told ...

But it has all these apps which I don't use and don't want all over the screen , it has a little problem with my internet connection so it's in waiting mode at the minute, to be sorted.

Cheers 1%

Get a router or ethernet switch and use them both. I bought a new pc, but I use the old one more because I don't like Windows 8.

Yes , I am a tad apprehensive / suspect on the windows 8 new computer , there is a thread on here about the change
, which I have had a quick look at .
But I figure all these new upgrades seem to have their individual problems .... so will see how it goes ,
I only do basic stuff anyway , no banking and I have a plain ph .

Many of those old slow computers running on windows run like new faster computers with one of the smaller versions of linux.

Linux does not have the bloat that windows has had since win 98.

This allows linux to find programs faster on the hard drives.

I have a win 8.1 laptop that is no faster then my 12 year old computer with Linux mint 17.

Too true, and a nice poem i like it

I have 7 or 8 computers, the old '98 ones i use as jukeboxes etc.
Maybe i should try Linux on them, good idea. Windows is on shaky ground by the looks of it, i never liked anything after XP.

2 of them running NT, they never crash although they might do wierd things now & then!
And then there's the Amiga, over 20 years old, boot up in 58 seconds, and can do anything a PC can (although slower & simpler graphics) but it can do a lot of things PC's can't do
and it is immune to all the modern PC viruses.

Oh, the good old days, when 'mobiles' were things hung over cots, and you had to actually get up to change one of the 8 channels on the wooden T.V.
LOL
