When Nas talks about being a prophet it's symbolic. Alotta M.C.'s do that.
And it's even more common among rastafari reggae artists. I'm not good with names, and can't remember this guy's name, but he's a great reggea
singer. He's got something with his legs, and has to use crutches. Argh, what's his name again... Anyway, some years back when I played with this
root-rock reggea band in Oslo called Ziontist, I saw this film about him and his band when they visited Jerusalem as pilgrims. I especially remember
when they tried to enter this synagogue, and this priest comes and demands that he has to remove his hat before he's allowed to enter, but he refuses
and says he has his reasons:
"Who are you since you can walk into the synagogue without taking your hat off?" the priest then asks him
"I'm a prophet" he says
"Prophet who?" the priest inquires
"Who are you, to ask me such a question?" the reggea prophet asks in return
"I'm the priest" the priest says
"Priest who?" the prophet replies
I almost fell of the chair laughing my heart out when I saw that one. No doubt who won that dispute...
Blessings,
