George Galloway taken to hospital after street attack

George Galloway has been taken to hospital with a suspected broken jaw after he was attacked on a London street, his spokesman has said.

The Respect MP was posing for pictures with people in Golborne Road, Notting Hill, when a man allegedly set upon him. Police were quickly at the scene and arrested a man.

The MP's spokesman said he had bruising and was in "a pretty bad shape".

He said the alleged attacker had been shouting something about the Holocaust.

"George was posing for pictures with people and this guy just attacked him, leapt on him and started punching him," the spokesman said.

"It appears to be connected with his comments about Israel because the guy was shouting about the Holocaust."

Mr Galloway was interviewed under caution by police earlier this month after he made controversial comments about Israel.

The MP for Bradford West said in a speech that Bradford had been "declared an Israel-free zone" and urged people to reject all Israeli goods, services academics and tourists.

Here

An "Israel-free zone".

It was the Nazis who used the phrase 'Jew-free zone' when they had murdered all the Jews in a certain area.

This clown - dangerous clown - was obviously paraphrasing the Nazis with that remark.

And just to impress his Muslim voters.

I would consider a broken jaw getting off very lightly.

A punch in the face is probably worth it for the extra publicity and fact he can make out he's a victim of the thuggery of his opponents.

The only publicity he will get is the news saying how he hates jews and indirectly supports terrorism. Which obviously is all a load of bull#.

When you say "Make out he's a victim of the thuggery of his opponents" What do you mean? His opinion allows people to be able to hit him because of the subject matter? I really dont get that last comment you made.

Anyway it just shows you that you can't say # about Israel - not even if its hardcore facts.
Yet you can lie about the whole Muslim world, and even allow far right wannabe militant groups pop up against Muslims - boycotting products & services.

A few people boycott Subway over a business idea about Halal - It gets days of media coverage.
Tens of thousands of people boycott the Israel bar-code serial number & hundreds of products - No air time.

All publicity is good publicity. Galloway knows there are people out there who read beyond what is opined in the daily papers, so having his face in the news does have it's advantages even if it is bruised.

Regardless of the motive of the attack, which does look vaguely political although I'd say it was just a guy with anger issues, Galloway can now use it to his advantage, and probably will try given he's a politician. I'm not saying he would be wrong to do that, and I'm certainly not justifying the attack., there are many idiots out there The guy will likely get cautioned by the police and let off though.

It wouldn't be the first time and probably won't be the last - it all depends on what the perp get's charged with, whether Galloway wants to press charges and what his previous record is like.

For a broken jaw, that could constitute GBH and even the lesser form of "wounding without intent" does not provide for the option of a fine, in fact as the assailant clearly intended to cause harm, this would fall under section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act which almost always ends up with a prison sentence - although this can be a "suspended sentence".

Anyhoo, the point I am making is that they will deal with as per the law, not because he attacked an MP.

To be honest, the slimy, weasely excuse of a man got off lightly with a broken jaw.

Biggs? I would buy you another pint If you did this
.

SorryI just don't like the guy he used Bradford and the Respect party like his own little kingdom and as soon as he got in he forgot all about the things in Bradford.

Cut aside all the BS and you've got a man having his jaw broken in an unprovoked street attack.

Apparently there are some opinions that allow for people having their jaws broken?

Apparently there are some occupations where having your jaw broken in a criminal attack is not a crime?

Galloway goes out of his way to court controversy. While I don't condone this type of behaviour, the man has made it his business to annoy and stereotype some groups in society. I would say they should have talked it through, but Galloway would just patronise.

Regards

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

The guy is a loud mouth who invites this kind of response. BUT it shouldn't happen. Everyone has a right to express their opinions. It was illegal ... it was assault ... and the guy doing the punching should have been able to control himself. No pat on the back for him. The perp just gave Galloway more publicity. It would have been better for the perp to ignore him.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

In Cartoon World, I'd have them all beaten with anvils, sticks of TNT and that swarm of angry bees would fly out of every cupboard door they open.

Despicable bunch of people.

In this world, breaking jaws is thin edge of a nasty wedge...not good.

(Oh I'd be in favour of wedgies too)

The guy should not have attacked George Gallaway.
And George Gallaway should be prosecuted for declaring Bradford an Israel free zone (I am not against him condemning Israeli action but if that phrase isn't incitement, then just change Israel to another country e.g. Gaza- and see how you feel).

Two wrongs don't make a right.

For half the crap Galloway says, I'm surprised it wasn't a plutonium dart.

I've certainly noticed his comments getting more provoking over the years but at least he's willing to stand up against the status quo. Aside from the propaganda that circles around him by the west making him look like something he's not, all I see is someone with a loud mouth who isn't interested in wars of aggression based on lies. I guess many people here do?

It's ok, after Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Ukraine, ?....Syria, you'd think people would catch on to the stark reality that dropping bombs and leveling countries hasn't made us any more safe than where we started. In fact! We are less safe and less free but by all means......

I don't consider George Galloway a clown and neither do a huge amount of people. He has the guts to speak out rather than use his fists - which is considerably more civilised than a surprise and cowardly attack by that man!

You know something else that needs to be said, is a little more honesty over the rise of Nazism due to the acts of people trying to take over Germany and take comtrol of its people. We only ever hear one side of the German peoples history, the other side is kept well hidden and its time we had a balanced view of what happened in Germany. We see the same situation, only concluded in the USA, with the huge amount of aid going to Israel, when other countries need that aid to stop starvation, the Israelis use foreign aid for buying arms, not food. I trust you see the difference.

George Galloway has spoken out about Muslim extremists so he's not biased, just speaks as he sees it.

I hope George Galloway prosecutes the zionist thug and gets well soon to continue his good work of making people aware of what goes on in the ME.

We need MP's like George Galloway. You don't have to agree with his politics but he is outspoken and stands up for his cause. I admire his tenacity towards Tony Blair. He also gets a lot of abuse in the house of commons so he must be doing something right.

Just as an aside...I remember him talking about meeting Angela Merkel whom he described as being no more attractive away from the podium than she was on it. Anyway, he asked her why they wouldn't let Greece leave the EU and she replied 'if we let Greece leave they will all want to leave'...sounds about right.

It is sad that he has been assaulted. It wasn't so long ago that Nigel Farage had to have a police escort after being trapped by a baying mob. The recent attention given to Scottish Labour MP Jim Murphy is perhaps a more appropriate response.
