Set Apart

You sit on your throne from a lofty position.
Your vision’s profoundly and thoroughly clear.
Too many locusts with haughty ambition…
What do you see when you look at us here?

Knowledge and pride seared in our minds.
How long, oh Watcher, shall you let us reign?
Our vanity holds, and thoroughly blinds.
We mistake it for ignorant power and gain.

We’re all selfish children at violent play.
Each of us wants our pleasurable things.
Our impulsive nature leads us astray.
Attached to the sin are invisible strings.

Pleading and warning against all the games.
Free will is a gift that you’ll never take.
Our passion is feeding the tormenting flames.
We follow the deadly and smiling snake.

The serpent speaks lies that sound very sweet.
He is promising riches and the power above.
Like sheep to the slaughter we happily bleat.
We walk into death and destruction thereof.

Our own fallen natures have led to this fate.
There is no other being to fault or to blame.
Chances were given, the way was made straight.
Upon our shoulders we have brought only shame.

Sigh.

I see a general lack of brotherhood, respect, peace, tranquility, civility, hope, care, honor, integrity, and most importantly love. It has been replaced with greed, hate, racism, xenophobia, war, oppression, religious extremism, ignorance, lies, deceit, shunning of intelligence and true knowledge, and unwarranted anger towards fellow man.

In short, the Golden Rule, has been viciously, and savagely violated.. without remorse, nor care, repeatedly. It has been forgotten.

What is most sad, is that humanity could have everything the snake whispers.. everything you dream of, and more.. if you just followed the rules laid out.
