Wow...interesting. Major internet denial of service attacks combined with Ebola end-of-the-world scenario ....

How totally weird.

Wonder what is coming next? High altitude nuke, destroying our nice techie devices throwing us back to the 20th century? err.. 19th century.

I am using an iPad...was getting the time out thing before. Did not have a problem posting this, at all.

I do find it interesting that the Radware brochure about their AMS mentions Anon:

Recent attacks show that attackers are using new techniques known as multi vulnerability attack campaigns. During this the attackers set the Botnet (or instruct their fans, as in the case of Anonymous group operations) to launch several attack types in parallel, targeting multiple vulnerability points of the victim’s IT infrastructure such as the network, servers and the application layers

it seems to be wreaking havoc all across the net..

i've been trying to get the goddamn acer page to pull it's head out of it's ass, for the better part of two days, so i can buy a new adapter for my netbook..

it's got all sorts of screwy load errors on the accessory finder...worked fine a few days ago, when i went to go see if such a part was even available....now i have the money, and i can't buy......

The only problems I have seen were a couple of slow websites, and the timeout thing here on ATS which has cleared up for me.

I use an iPad, so maybe that has something to do with it...dunno.

Just to be clear, during most DDOS attacks, most of the "attackers" are people that downloaded the wrong torrent or came across the wrong malware ad and got infected, just naive people when it comes to computer security. There are some idiots in there that are infecting their PC on purpose on command of say an anonymous faction, but all the infected computers out there are a good smoke screen for plausible denial. No real way to tell the victims from the active participants really.

you shouldn't say sorry for being attacked.

I couldn't even access pages... kept coming up with a message of 'being looped'... redirected.

so it was looping to a date/homepage and would not refresh with the accurate info.

oh never mind. fixed now though.

cos I can at least navigate on the system and view most recent info.

Not really. I mean I personally don't even bother with real time antivirus anymore, I used spybot search and destroy and malwarebytes every few days, and seem to be a lot safer than when I paid norton. Everytime norton missed something and mucked up my system, the tech support always had me run those two, so I just decided to stop paying money for nothing lol. I have heard AVS is pretty good if you want realtime protection. One thing also that pissed me off about paid antiviruses like norton, they always flagged keygens as trojans, end maybe 1/1000 were not "false positives". I figured why pay for it when I am just going to ignore what they tell me anyways, as they seem to be in cahoots with the anti piracy leagues.

I meant something that was not so obvious. The commercial adware is mostly a rip-off unless they allow remote access to fix the lay man's computer(obviously a security breach in itself but it will keep Joe Smoes computer functioning). Whoever is hacking at that level, is likely to easily circumnavigate around those obstacles.

I was hoping for something more like task manager, more data, more user control, less flashy pictures. Not something most computer users like to use. Maybe something like wireshark, but to monitor exactly what one's computer is doing.

No doubt many have had their computer hijacked.

I think some more expensive routers with badass firewalls might help. Also not using windows, instead using linux, but that is not a solution for most. Most top-end programs I run are windows only, so I am stuck with it, until they support linux, which probably will never happen. Not to mention games, but games are not really a huge concern for me, most of the time my free time is spent learning maya and photoshop, and hoping to make it big as an artist lol.

I wish I would have listened to good advice and learned some programming languages.

I'm on a windows OS on this computer. It works but my next one will be linux. I was actually a little worried that following Anon on FB might have attracted the wrong kind of attention to my IP address.

I like xubuntu a lot, and would be there if not for the whole windows program stuff. Sure, there is a lot of open source alternatives out there, but comparing blender to maya, and gimp to photoshop is not a fair fight. Don't get me wrong, blender and gimp are awesome open source, but they do not have the depth that maya and photoshop has. For casual users I recommend them 100%, but people like me, in photoshop for example, my most used tool is the mixer brush, that I costumized to suit my needs, gimp does not have this, or didn't last time I tried it out. For basic photo-manipulation gimp holds it's own. One thing I really dug about blender was the community support. So much blender can do on the basic level, and so many people proficient in it willing to spill the beans on how they do what they do. Cycles render is also very good, but it can't stand up to maya vray really. And the plugins maya has to link it up with so many other programs like poser and zbrush seamlessly is a plus.

The only programming languages I relly know at all is basic linux, python and MEL script. I know some html too from when I tried internet marketting and failed.

Just wanted to quote you on that and say Aye. DDoS is the suicide bomb of the cyber world, only without the suicide, since the bombers don't even realise they are doing the bombing. But it's cheap, it's effective and anyone could basically make it happen. And finally, there is little or no risk of being caught. And it's bloody annoying.
