(STANDING UP FROM MY KEYBOARD TO CLAP!!!)

Applause, please some mod give this person applause! If the women's viewpoint doesn't convince you, LISTEN TO THIS ADVICE!!!!

Cuz I sure don't have sex when drunk, nor after only knowing someone a few days, let alone a few hours. The distinction should tell you something.

I mean this in the nicest way. I'm not screwing with you here. Please, talk to someone. Yeah I could have Pm'd but how creepy would that have been?

There's nothing wrong with her comments, which are mostly repeated legal facts, unfortunately where she has to repeat and repeat and repeat common sense as well.

That's fine but there 's an old joke. What is a vat of sewage with a cup of wine in it? A vat of sewage. What's a vat of wine with a cup of sewage in it? A vat of sewage. I never debated her claims. Held them up actually. But I'm too old to let my sex get slapped down further. Especially when we back woman's rights in the 70's and 80's.

And now you put the defense of rape claims on to "backing up women's rights".

Adorable.. Really adorable..

In regards to the thread: Dali is appropriately brought up early on. One of the most surreal reads I have had on ATS, and that's saying something.

Regarding the invention, the nails sound like a good idea.

The whole idea of date rape is surreal and horrifying.

LOL, sounds a lot yummier than having these guys who are defending rape when women "don't cover their drinks" go ahead and rape me when I "have a few too many." :/

I'd prefer a rewind, reset of humankind's mindset and behaviours to a new paradigm where women would have nothing to fear.

This behavior actually was ingrained in mankind along time ago. I'm not making excuses nowadays, because we now have the caveman era of human development, thousands of years in the rear-view mirror of human history. But, back then, forced sex was common and quick. Due to other males trying to impregnate the female, the biggest and baddest was the one that had sex, this was nature's way of having the strongest gene pool passed down to her offspring. and of course there were the wild animals around that would have you for lunch, rather than wait around for you to have an hour long interlude with a female, hence the "quickie" that has been around for millennia....unfortunately, that primal urge still exists, and I will say it is in both sexes....this is why more than a few women have rough or forced sex as a fantasy...my proof?...ask any of your female friends if they have read "fifty shades of grey"...and just wait for the movie when it comes out to see all the "girls night out to the movies" there are. however, men these days need to know where the line has to be drawn, and when it can discreetly be crossed.

It doesn't matter what people's particular fantasies are, just so long as the acts are consentual and neither are incapacitated either with drugs, alcohol or diminished mental faculties; maybe include in there naievity too.

Yea fear is huge and has nothing to do with the average guy whose feeling get hurt because we need to talk about these things. Rape is predatory and the fact rape exists naturally puts women on edge and I'd love to see a paradigm shift too.

War works the same way... perpetuated by a tiny minority of "leaders" yet among civilians on both sides it becomes us against them, this race versus that race. It will only stop if we collectively evolve.

Collective evolution seems like an unobtainable goal. In any event, I will continue to chime in and who knows maybe my words may evoke a positive change some day, some where, for someone.

“Rape is a devastating crime and we can’t solve it unless we know the full extent of it,” said Vice President Biden, a leader in the effort to end violence against women for over 20 years and author of the landmark Violence Against Women Act. “This long-awaited change to the definition of rape is a victory for women and men across the country whose suffering has gone unaccounted for over 80 years.”

“These long overdue updates to the definition of rape will help ensure justice for those whose lives have been devastated by sexual violence and reflect the Department of Justice’s commitment to standing with rape victims,” Attorney General Holder said. “This new, more inclusive definition will provide us with a more accurate understanding of the scope and volume of these crimes.”

“The FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Advisory Policy Board recently recommended the adoption of a revised definition of rape within the Summary Reporting System of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program,” said David Cuthbertson, FBI Assistant Director, CJIS Division. “This definitional change was recently approved by FBI Director Robert S. Mueller. This change will give law enforcement the ability to report more complete rape offense data, as the new definition reflects the vast majority of state rape statutes. As we implement this change, the FBI is confident that the number of victims of this heinous crime will be more accurately reflected in national crime statistics.”

The revised definition includes any gender of victim or perpetrator, and includes instances in which the victim is incapable of giving consent because of temporary or permanent mental or physical incapacity, including due to the influence of drugs or alcohol or because of age. The ability of the victim to give consent must be determined in accordance with state statute. Physical resistance from the victim is not required to demonstrate lack of consent. The new definition does not change federal or state criminal codes or impact charging and prosecution on the local level.

“The revised definition of rape sends an important message to the broad range of rape victims that they are supported and to perpetrators that they will be held accountable,” said Justice Department Director of the Office on Violence Against Women Susan B. Carbon. “We are grateful for the dedicated work of all those involved in making and implementing the changes that reflect more accurately the devastating crime of rape.”

T he longstanding, narrow definition of forcible rape, first established in 1927, is “the carnal knowledge of a female, forcibly and against her will.” It thus included only forcible male penile penetration of a female vagina and excluded oral and anal penetration; rape of males; penetration of the vagina and anus with an object or body part other than the penis; rape of females by females; and, non-forcible rape.

Police departments submit data on reported crimes and arrests to the UCR. The UCR data are reported nationally and used to measure and understand crime trends. In addition, the UCR program will also collect data based on the historical definition of rape, enabling law enforcement to track consistent trend data until the statistical differences between the old and new definitions are more fully understood.

For those still being willfully ignorant. This is the legal definition of rape. No matter what you attest or assert is "your opinion." The end.

Any suggestion to you that anything less or more is not rape is a willfully law-defiant suggestion that you break the law in the name of their own pride of opinion, just to "win a thread."
Have a nice day.

Or people can follow their common sense.

Do not take drinks from strangers.

When geting drinks, watch it being poured from the bottle.

Know when to stop drinking.

Have good friends with you and never go alone.

Or maybe men* should not even think that slipping such drugs to a woman is something they should even think of doing?

*no women shouldn't think to do this to anyone either.

Is anybody else feeling a bit sick reading this, I'm trying not to side here because alot of people are making mockeries of their own views, standpoints and morals.

To me it is disquieting to me that there appears to be very little to help those who are victims of people who want simply to bring the law down on someone in order to get compensation or some kind of gain out of an encounter that they could feel shameful of.

Personally I think that sex which is a result of a one time random encounter is best left to animals.

Nope, I'm feeling like some people in authority got the legal definition of "rape" today, and for that, I thank them for their contributions to the thread.

We can all learn something, right?

There are predators about.
It's a sad fact.
Acting like there isn't, is not a good idea.

Some ridiculous generalizations made here, like the drunk driving issue, someone consumes 1.5 drinks and they are too far to drive.

Imagine telling them they are too far gone to have sex, wow, that will get plenty of traction.

Yeah, sure it seems they are trying to help with the nail polish idea. I mean who is not going to see that especially if it's someone who put drug into the drink... The deeper issue should be addressed that there needs to be a shift in culture about the attitudes towards rape as it's never acceptable.
