One of the most interesting threads I've read. Many thanks.

I took these pictures in roughly the same location on a flight from Osaka to San Francisco yesterday at 39,000 Ft.
Using google maps distance measurement, this is approx 700 miles south of southern tip of Russia and 800 miles east of Hokkaido.
Do the fishing fleets go out this far?

Looks like fishing fleet lights yes

It's either volcanic with the whites being spewing hot lava and the reds being the bigger beds of cooling lava or

Or

Or an underwater meetup......what looks like a rendezvous or a great big mother humper with a dome even

Still wondering what actually happened here. I found it a very interesting and in many ways credible case.

The pics discussed can be found on Page 1.

For me the thread delivered three things:

- the pics are probably real: story photographer is sound, settings of camera are understandable.
- there was/is no vulcanic activity in the region the plane flew at the moment of the pictures.
- it are no bugs, no light-fishing ships. Methane fires? Lightning plankton? I can hardly believe it.
