What I don't understand is why cutting aid to the poor in the US while increasing the foreign aid of other countries, then the latest statistic shows that the welfare state has increased incredibly under the present administration by millions.

It makes no sense.

What's even worse is we are paying foreign aid through the creation of public debt. Are the Israeli's and other Nations going to help feed us when our economy collapses from the debt we are creating to pay them their Foreign Aid? I don't think so.

Welfare for farmers gets increased. Oops, "subsidies
a reply to: the owlbear

I guess you don't know anything about farming, I live in a farming community, if your not a Corporate farmer I agree the subsides are not distributed evenly, but the independent farmer is trying to compete with the corporate farmers they don't stand a chance, they are driving old farm trackers and equipment, price out a new tractor its at least 1/2 million dollars, they do all the work and get squat for there products.

If you look at the Farmers report, there are more and more fewer farmers out there today then 5-10 20 years ago, why? the independent farm can't afford to farm anymore.

from OP article;

President Obama praised it as an example of bipartisan problem-solving that would help create jobs and move the American economy forward.

“Congress passed a bipartisan Farm Bill that is going to make a big difference in communities across the country,” said the president.

Obama’s remarks also focused heavily on economic inequality, which he has previously called “the defining challenge of our time.” The Farm Bill, he said, would “give more Americans a shot at opportunity.”

Can't wait to see those new jobs and "shots" at opportunities and big differences !!!

I thought Obama.Care was taking care of all that ?

It annoys me why they don't make cuts like this starting at the top with corporate benefits and such, it's sickening to me why when governments start trying to save money that they seem to go after the poorest in society first whilst the richest get a free for all.

Hey Tank, as a farmer you can give better insight to this discussion; when the indie farmer goes under, who takes the land? I'm sure with the taxation, they rarely keep it.

This should concern every American. "Real Foods" such as non GMOs will be affected by this, as production will slow up or cease, as GMOs will be over produced and their prices inflated.

Why would an abundance of food become more expensive?

BTW this is about the only non-GMO food out there, let them eat non-GMO corn I say!

I really wish we would go back to providing "Government food" and not money.

Republicans have a whole lot to worry about though, they got owned and duped as well with the Trojan horse Tea party that last round, I think your requirements for president even eclipse any candidate that they have really had to offer, each one with his or her own skeletons and inadequacies.

You are putting too much faith and stock in a social security number as well as a birth certificate, those might be qualifiers for office but beyond that they are no predictor whether or not that person elected will have the ability to preside, you do remember that the last one that was a product of the republicans really did nothing except get us into Iraq, which his wiser father warned against, and it has led to the ISIS mess we now have, Cheney was the proxy president by the way.

So I don't get too far off topic, does anyone have an updated figure for this in case someone needs to be checked ?

The Food Stamp President

Repubs or Dems they are all in the same bag. I really don't have any requirements for POTUS since none have seriously been followed worth a damn since Grover Cleveland. I brought up Obammy's background just to prove a point; had the populous taken his sketchy background seriously, this entire charade wouldn't have played out as long and extensive as it did; the puppet masters would have had to change their game versus the rest of the population being hit by theirs. Dubya doesn't even count, his dad wanted him there and the Bush family has been in bed with the Bin Ladens for 25 years...again, a smokescreen coming from a family with their finger in every facet of government for 50 years. Don't forget Obammy is their cousin.

I can't find any new stats on the food stamps yet...probably not going to be smudge and released until end of September, right before regional elections.

Kind of a slippery slope. What is the right amount? How far should we support a person who doesn't support themselves, but is physically and mentally able? The Food Stamp program is extremely corrupt, so is there a better way to get real food to the people who really need it?

You know people where not starving before food stamps.... As we shift from the community taking care of their own that they know by name to a faceless Government who sees people as numbers that is what we get. Subsistence is like a drug, once you get it, it is hard to get off of it. The Government gets 1/2 of the population on subsistence then on a whim they can just cut it in half. The Government is the drug dealer and this is control.

Make people hungry and when Hilary comes along in 2016 she will say that she will double food stamps...Obama said "everyone should have a house" and many thought Obama would get them a house when he became President.

It is all about control and manipulation of the ignorant masses.

Inflation. Real foods would become more expensive simply because of inflation and to deter independent farmers to grow it. This is a GMO agenda; if you watch Food Inc or any docs out there about the bullying of real farmers you will see why it will go expensive. Nutritious and healthy foods are 4x as much now in this economy than they ever had been. When I was a kid, 20 bucks got you a salad with 30+ veggies and it could last 2 weeks. Now, its impossible to get a salad for the day without spending without 70-100 bucks.

I'm glad the government is not providing food. Remember government cheese? It just didn't melt. Made good mac n cheese baked though.

Don't forget it was the government that took the right for people to grow their own food, collect veggies, and fish and hunt without their interference away. We are past the point of surviving "in crisis". That is, as a collective. Now they are setting things up to keep people locked in country, versus getting out country. Slippery indeed.

Half the country was sick of a Republican president and didn't want to see another for a while. Half thought he would make a great president and if he was the man he claimed to be on the trail, he would have been. But he turned out to be another Wall St. president... not enough of the half that voted for him see it, not enough of the half that didn't vote for him see it either... instead they lost their goddamn minds and are no longer capable of coherent thought, just babbles of Kenyan, Muslim, Socialist, Commie, Progressive.

First, do you really suggest that the only Real Food is non-GMO food? I really wonder who is the driving the bad food train here. The evil GMO people or the Organic people creating a GMO scare to push their prices 3 or 4 times what it should be.

Is there ANY food that has not been genetically modified? I showed Indian corn as an example of non-GMO...

Also what is bad about GMO? Take golden rice that has been genetically modified so that it contains beta-carotene, the source of vitamin A. Lack of vitamin A is a huge issue in many parts of the world, so you are saying that if we provided the world this rice and cured the lack of vitamin A illnesses with it, it is not real food and so harmful?

Plant breeding is something humans have done since the first day of farming and is very time consuming and inaccurate. To take, lets say a gene from a drought resistance planet and put it into a crop plant to get that resistant please tell me how this creates bad food, when we could do the same with enough time by plant breeding?

One side note...we could not feed the world without GMO...

A lot of people are going back to growing their own. Create a co-op buy a few acres and grow/raise all you need. I say co-op because it first lowers the cost of the land, reduces the maintenance and labor needs and one just does not understand how much food a few acres will make, and how much meat a few calfs provide 8 months later. You can't eat or can it all.....

When I say "Real Food" I mean just that, real whole food. When I am overseas in Europe, I don't have to worry about whether or not my broccoli is genetically spliced with pig genes. I'm not talking about cross breeding different strains of plants, as farmers may do naturally. I'm speaking FRAKENFOOD. I'm speaking some cows that haven't been shot up with hormones and antibiotics up the ass. I'm talking about plants not GMO'd with READYROUNDUP or AGENT ORANGE or any other poison people can think of. We are not talking about some rice that has some added minerals in it. We are talking about something created that has NO NUTRITIONAL VALUE. Something in American not filled with GMO Corn, which is in EVERYTHING and causing everybody to gain weight. People are overeating because they are not getting proper nutrition in what they are eating.

If America wasn't trying to poke their noses in the business of the world, everybody could actually feed themselves. Africa was an agricultural continent that was doing just fine before colonization. The Native Americans and Aboriginals were doing just fine eating as well up until colonists reared their ugly heads and policies too.

I'm not thinking nor talking about feeding the world right now, when America is starving its own.

This is going to hurt a lot of elderly and disabled people, many of whom get food stamps to survive. So we cut food stamps and other federal benefits, except when they apply to congress, or are some corporate hand out. Lovely. Oh, well. The natives should start getting restless anytime soon.

Depends on where you are at, and even then, you are still regulated by local and/or state government. Senate Bill S520C passed on November 30, 2010 made it a felony for Americans to grow their own food. If they choose to enforce this, growing your veggies would give you a smuggling felony. Again, when I was in Chicago, the city was adamant about salting the backyards of the old folks who grew private gardens. Only on the north side in predominately white areas did you have a CoOp situation and it was a lot of money to get into it.
