THE DARKNESS

It hangs over us like a veil. Thick, heavy and black.
It sticks and it clings and it suffocates us.
Like drowning in treacle, ever-deeper we struggle on.

It blocks out the light, and prevents us from feeling the warmth.
Without light, there is no colour, no beauty, no rainbows, no smiles.
Without the warmth, we are lost, condemned to shiver alone in the dark.

But do you know what? After every darkness comes the sunrise.
The beautiful, beaming, glorious, warming, life-giving sun.
It lights up the shadows, and shows us the beauty all around us.
It warms our body and our heart, and banishes the darkness to memory.

Enjoy the light. Feel the sun. Breathe the air.
Reach out to your friends, you know who they are.
You couldn't see them in the dark, but they were always there.
You might not even have met them yet, but now is the time.

Get outside. Unplug. Switch off. Let the breeze tickle your skin.
Feel the raindrops run down your cheeks, dance, and smile.
Kick off your shoes, curl your toes in the grass - IT WORKS!

It's not about health, It's not about medication. It's not about religion.
It's about being human, It's about being strong. It's about being you!
Finding yourself again. Embracing the light. Banishing the dark.

The darkness will return, it always does.
But next time - you'll be ready.
And so too will the sunrise, it's just around that corner.

Smile.

GTD

You know what I like it and all that, hopeful message but I have some issues with it.

First off, if that is your kid in avatar, I wouldn't slap pictures like that all over internet.

Secondly, yes there is reason for hope. When we die, we are free. That is the greatest hope of all. However, the darkness that is coming will be ALL ENCOMPASSING HORROR WHICH MANY WILL NOT SURVIVE.

So yeah it will be good, but will you survive it human body to see the light, or will you perish like many others, only to see the light as a spirit without human body.

I hate to be the party pooper, but you are on ATS

LOL - No worries!

Take from it what you will.

I see it as a commentary on our daily darkness, (whatever holds us back from being what we should/could be) and how to cope/deal with that.
It was not intended as a look into the GREATER Darkness of life/death, eternity, or soul / spirit etc
But I am glad that you can see elements of that in there! It shows that you have vision and imagination!

kindest regards,
G

Gordy, this is nice. I saw where You were/are going with this.
If I may add my Poem I dropped into Short Stories about a month ago,
it fits somewhat, I believe with what part of your initial intension of this writing was/is.
I see that your writing does cover ones dark periods of life, be it from self inflicted means, or by collateral damage.
My Poem is about some who seem to carry a dark load in their heart, or attract the darkness, most of the time.
Oddly Enough, It is Titled," Darkness"

Darkness falls on the Sunlit room
Taking away the light,
and filling it with gloom.

Not the whole room it seems
but just around Me,
why does the Darkness loom?

The crowd of people quiet down
when I enter the room
seems I make the flowers wilt,
instead of helping them bloom.

Darkness and despair
follow me wherever I go
I wish for the days
to see the Sunlight flow.

Alas, gone are the
Sunny days of lore.
I fill my life
with Darkness once more......

Gordy Please forgive my Rudeness!!?
Your Poem is Very Deep and Powerful!!
It breathes The Value of Human Life!!!
I love the Flow......

If I could Set this to Music,
I would put it to the similarity of
A Driving Beat like, Billy Idol's White Wedding!

I applaud the effort; well done. In my experience when we dwell on darkness, light--or happiness--will find us at some point. Dwell in the light, and the darkness will come ... eventually. Thus is the quest for a sustainable, balanced state of mental and emotional bliss futile, or worthwhile?

Interesting, there will always and forever be an equal balance of light and darkness whether it be physically or symbolically. How i see it is; wherever there is light there will be a shadow cast from it.

Oh geez....a *squishy hug* and a "thank you", for reminding me.
I have been in that dark place again for awhile...needed to remember that it always ends.

*puts on red curly wig...starts singing, "The sun will come up....tomorrow..."*

You should have 'Writer' status here Gordi. You just should.

The DARKNESS isn't alone...
There are others trying to get in on the act.

The driver who growls, the stalker who prowls, the ungrateful, the selfish and rude.
They bring dark clouds with them and block out the light, they make it so hard to see good.
For lightness and brightness don't interest them, on their journey for speed and for greed.
It's an easy trip into their own little world, if they're focusing on their own needs.

But all that it takes is the smile of a child, or a wag of a tail from a dog,
A hug from a friend can help us no end, as the song of a bird lifts the fog.
The clouds might bring rain, but remember my friends, that rainwater fills up the streams.
It waters the earth and brings things to life, and rainbows are born to be seen.

The good things in life would be taken for granted, if there were no bad things as well.
You can't taste the sweet if you've never had sour, and heaven means nought without hell.
The trick is to learn how to ride out the bad, in the knowledge that good will return.
With patience and strength we can outlast the worst, then take our place back in the sun.

Bring on the sun tan lotion!

Very Good Gordy My Friend!!! This seems to fit my current situation very well. I do know that we, Her and I, will get through this mess. I have a lot on my plate to devour before it will all be over. Mostly my doings are seeming to be the cause of this round here. I will stay in touch through the threads you guys have for a while. Till the Storm passes anyway.

Later, Syx

I'm just shamelessly giving this old thread a wee bump, as some of my friends might benefit from hearing it's message right now...

Very nice, Gordi, Thank you!

I always feel better after this...sometimes it turns into a (much needed) two day adventure.

Get outside. Unplug. Switch off. Let the breeze tickle your skin. Feel the raindrops run down your cheeks, dance, and smile. Kick off your shoes, curl your toes in the grass - IT WORKS!

Have a great day, my friend.
