I know why some may be upset but I don't think anyone should be surprised.

This is the type of government most wanted. This is the progressive nightmare come to life!

Face it, you aren't smart enough to control your own life anymore.

The government will do that for you.

I thought the Democrats were Pro-Choice. What happened to the "its my body" argument?

I guess now that we're forced to pay for health insurance, measures must be taken to cut down on claims and increase profits. You all don't expect them to pass the savings on to us do you?

I'll call you a waaahbulance!

Want to feed your little porker junk food for lunch, send one with him.

Why are some people so easily offended?

It's not your body, it's the body of somebody else's child. Now if it was your child, still in your body, or a least still in your household, that would be apples to apples, and you could choose- for your kid- by packing his lunch full of pink cookies and saving the money you would have spent getting the school version. A good sound conservative family values answer don't you think? Too bad it doesn't make the liberals hypocrites but you can't have everything- another good conservative lesson for the kids to learn here (and the libs hypocrisy-they'll handle that themselves, relax- we're all guilty eventually)

Yeah...the title is meant to get attention, but it is true! A school in Elyria Ohio was forced to remove a 40 year, traditional pink cookie from the lunchroom thanks to interference by the Obama administration. Apparently, the cookie has more than 200 calories and therefore, isn't permitted at lunch.

FoxNews

I'm so fed up (no pun intended) with the government sticking their noses in people's personal business. Is this what we WANT from government? Do we want them to decide what we can and can't eat? Do we have to sit there and have some jackass spoon feed us what THEY decide is appropriate like some freakin' baby? Government shouldn't have ANY say over what we do, or what we allow our children to do as long as it is legal. THAT...is not freedom.

But, they have no problem serving $1000 dinners to raise campaign money. I bet those dinners aren't measured for calories either.

You're right.

People should just shut the hell up and stop criticizing the government.

It's for their own good!

I guess the intentions are right, obesity is a massive problem in most Western countries. This however is another example of governments doing an easy thing (literally taking candy from children) rather than more effective, difficult strategies targeting the food industry and local politics.

Banning sugary/fatty food adverts from children's channels; challenging companies on whether they are marketing dangerous foods to children, discouraging TV watching in general and encouraging more physical activities, providing more community activities and events for families, strictly monitoring what gets put into food and drinks ( it surprised me going to USA that fruit drinks contain no fruit!), and ensuring children are educated on the dangers of obesity.

All of these are better and less restrictive strategies than this calory intake rule. It's probably a political move though; means they can preach that they are trying to do something about it.

I think you said the magic word...Encourage. While it is their responsibility to encourage parents, children and all citizens to use healthy products, legislating it is NOT what they should be doing. Commercials, advertisements, etc...are all fine. Education is essential. Laws or forced restrictions...nope!

Oh, Boo Hoo! It's YOUR choice to send your kid to public school and have him get his lunch there. It's YOUR choice to send him to school with a crappy lunch. Don't expect the government to cater to you. You sound like a progressive!

It's TOTALLY your choice! Quit crying!

Not so much offended as insulted! I feed my children well with a nice mix of nutritional products and the occasional sweet. Occasional being the key word. But I don't wish to be ruled by anyone when it comes to mundane things like feeding my children...or myself for that matter. And I'm doing just fine deciding who, if anyone, is going to temporarily dictate to my children. How far is this from making it illegal to sell...oh, I don't know...soda? Oh...that's right. Already done and tried in NY by another progressive. I guess progress is simply a matter of deciding you are King and telling the livestock what you will, and won't allow them to have or do.

No, people need to shut the hell up and take personal responsibility for what they feed their children.

What, aren't these "outraged" parents self reliant Americans? Why are they letting their children feed at socialist cafeterias? Or do they want their children to grow up learning socialist values like eating the same food as other less conservative children?

Or to put it simply, be a parent.

The Progressive nightmare... government thugs kicking down your door and confiscating your pink cookie because it wasn't red enough for them. Oh yeah, the national anthem will be Ray Steven's Surfin' USSR any day now.

Most of the time I have to argue that schools infantilize children to groom them to be compliant subjects, but once in a while somebody has got to come down on the side of sit down shut up and finish your vegetables.

If I have to post Justin Bieber youtube vids to prove that children are not rational actors and have no place in capitalism, that's not as far beneath me as you might think, but I'm really trying hard to keep it classy.

I disagree. Who asked my opinion, as a taxpayer and the parent of two, school aged daughters affected by this change? No one? Right! Mrs. Obama decided to change something using my money and affecting my children and I have no say in the matter...not even a simple vote. That change is therefore being DICTATED and therefore, if you are being dictated to...you are being RULED.

What, you aren't able to send them to school with lunch? Hell if pink cookies are that damned important to your child's diet, send some with them to eat with lunch.

Good lord!

Wait, are you in favor of socialism? Do you want socialized pinko cookies, sold directly by Obama to your child?

Or are we talking about for-profit cookies here? And if we're talking about for-profit cookies, then doesn't this amount to a minor rezoning of commercial territory which leaves you with the exact same options available at a slightly different location?

But you DO have a say in the matter. You don't have to depend on the school to feed your children. If you're going to take advantage of the school lunch program that's sponsored by the government, then you have to depend on their discretion. But you are not required to do that. You can send your kid to school with whatever you want them to eat.

Yep. Take the cookies. Take all of that away. Serve whole wheat macaroni and pressed meat chicken that the kids won't touch. I have always been strict with the sweets in my house. My daughter didn't even have her first taste of soda until she was in first or second grade. My husband is bigger, and I am small. I knew that my daughter would have a 50% chance at being big so I worked damn hard to at least give her a fighting chance.

She eats what other kids won't usually. Do you know what she won't eat?? School lunch. She hasn't touched one for at least 3 years. So not only is she not getting the cookie, she's not getting the calories she needs during the day unless she brings it from home.

Most of the people behind this healthy eating agenda are the same ones who get pissed when people waste food and clean water.

Take a minute and drive to a school at lunchtime and look into the trash cans when lunch is over. Let me know how sick it makes you to see all that food just wasted. There has to be a middle ground. Somewhere between fatty and disgusting as hell.

Can't someone find it?? Geez.
