So if none of the sites which routinely report on stories about astrobiology and extremophiles aren't running it, there is probably nothing to this.

That would be my take on it. With a UV rating of 400 up there, and the heat from the Sun too, anything
on the outside of the station should be fried to a crisp.

Does this find add any more feasibility to the theory of panspermia?

Exactly Slayer

NATURE WILL FIND A WAY ,,

How Life Can Come from Other Planets or Remains aka Asteroids , Meteors etc and to Learn to Adapt to it new Host Planet Nice Idea and Theory Especially a Water/Ice Planet exploded in some way then the Remains,, H20 Ice Comet, Meteors Asteroids etc... Travels thousands to millions of years to Our Planet Possible ?.. If the Planet had the same Life living Formula as this planet called Earth.. to Even Organic Space Dust Partials may contain life

From what it looks,, Earth just has been caught Releasing Organisms into space !

What the Hell Let Send some Frozen Hardy Life to Mars

Like this One and what ever it feeds from... even Alge !

Remember ! the Apollo Mission Quarantine Camper

When NASA Wasn't So sure if the Astronauts could of been effected by alien life organisms on the Moon if there was any !

Well Don't for get this People .. tho this was Human Error

Little Buggers like Bacteria Survived it all ( 3 years on the Moon ) !!

Earth microbes on the moon
Three decades after Apollo 12, a remarkable colony of lunar survivors revisited
science.nasa.gov...

Space historians will recall that the journey to the stars has more than one life form on its passenger list: the names of a dozen Apollo astronauts who walked on the moon and one inadvertent stowaway, a common bacteria, Streptococcus mitis, the only known survivor of unprotected space travel. As Marshall astronomers and biologists met recently to discuss biological limits to life on Earth, the question of how an Earth bacteria could survive in a vacuum without nutrients, water and radiation protection was less speculative than might first be imagined. A little more than a month before the forthcoming millennium celebration, NASA will mark without fanfare the thirty year anniversary of documenting a microbe's first successful journey from Earth.

Is the ISS in atmosphere? I thought it was in the vacuum of space?

Hmmm... not quite. Which is why the news isn't as astounding as it might otherwise be.

Interesting ISS Now has Plankton !

Plankton Blooms, Capricorn Channel
www.jsc.nasa.gov...

Detailed imagery taken by astronauts from the International Space Station has provided a new way of looking at many features on the Earth's surface. This image captures a plankton bloom in the Capricorn Channel off the Queensland coast of Australia. The whispy pattern of the bloom suggests that the plankton are Trichodesmium -- photosynthetic cyanobacteria, also called "sea saw dust" that is common in the world's oceans

Remember the space tether incident when all those images of circular cells were moving towards the tether. Remember the tether was electrically charged. Who knows... This report just reminded me of that.

Here's a happy sad theory.... What if earth was responsible for life in our galaxy? If the wind truly blew this to the space station, then certainly other organisms have traveled into space. What if we were the battery that powers life in our local cosmos?

Imagine how ironic that would be.

So after years of being exposed to the conditions on the edge of space, and the radiation, and the lack of an atmosphere, when they return (will the ISS be brought down at some point?) will they even still be terrestrial, or will they have mutated and adapted so much that they now will qualify as totally alien?

And what will that mean, infection-wise, perhaps?

It's a sci-fi horror movie, waiting to happen.

I'm thinking that they don't make it very far out into space or the moon would be covered with plankton by now.

Regardless, excellent find!

Evidence for Extraterrestrial Extremophiles and Plasmas in the Thermosphere

As depicted in NASA space shuttle film footage compiled and published by this author (Joseph 2012a,b), anomalous objects resembling and behaving similar to single cell and simple multi-cellular organisms have been observed and filmed by 10 separate NASA space shuttle missions, over 200 miles above Earth within the thermosphere. These structures appear to be self-illuminated, may be several meters or kilometers in size, and have 4 distinct morphologies: 1) sperm shaped, 2) cloud shaped, 3), “donut” shaped, 4) Cone shaped. Some of these structures travel at different speeds, travel in different directions, and change their speed and direction of movement and angle toward the camera, will turn and interact with one another, and in some instances will turn 180 degrees and follow other structures.

This has been debunked elsewhere already.

That site, acts as though it is a scientific journal. It is not.

What is wrong with all this is that it serves no other purpose than confuse the general public about astrobiology. Not good.

I wouldn't put my money on the air currents blowing them onto the spacecraft before launch. I bet they hitched a ride on bird feet.

If this is even real...

I don't see how they can survive in the Sun. They would be cooked.

technically they are aliens well the next generation ones as they would have been created in space and are therefore not of this earth!

The big question that no one is asking:

What happens when the ISS sea plankton meets with the Mir space fungus?

Bacteria and fungi found in water belong by definition to plankton.

Some food for thought.

Chernobyl Fungus Feeds On Radiation

Researchers at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AEC) have found evidence that certain fungi possess another talent beyond their ability to decompose matter: the capacity to use radioactivity as an energy source for making food and spurring their growth.

"Just as the pigment chlorophyll converts sunlight into chemical energy that allows green plants to live and grow, our research suggests that melanin can use a different portion of the electromagnetic spectrum - ionizing radiation - to benefit the fungi containing it," said co-researcher Ekaterina Dadachova.
