It's funny that as you read things a second time. More details come out.
And the rabbit hole gets deeper.

And that design is not totally irrelevant.

lol. I came across this roleplaying wiki.

Looks like someone did their homework when creating this plane for their fantasy game.

I still like the idea of a matured Kingfish using hopped up J58s (I always picture an old diesel mechanic turning up the fuel pump lol), and 4 or 4.5 generation avionics.

Whether I'm right or wrong, it's fun to think about

Is the green flame an entirly new aircraft, or an updated predesesor?

Like an XB-70 remade with todays material tech?

It's a hybrid. They started with an older design, updated the materials, then during wind tunnel testing they redesigned into a somewhat new aircraft. There are portions that are recognizable as an older design, and parts that aren't.

Flying wings are almost uncontrollable at supersonic speeds. You can get into the transonic range, and close to supersonic but once you cross over the sound barrier you have a stone cold bitch just waiting for the tiniest mistake.

im going to guess closer to the XB-70. It was meant for HEF fuels and they tool and kit was there already for manufacturing and maintenance.

i would think a flying wing would not be very good for going very fast, seems the pointy and skinny design is the way to go.

That's my feeling as well nowadays...

Though echoing Zaph's comment about recognizable elements of an old design with all-new details, I'd imagine that it is to the XB-70 what the F/A-18 was to the T-38.
