Black hole bends light, space, time -- and NASA's NuSTAR can see it all unfold

This is pretty exciting and mind-boggling stuff.

NASA's black-hole hunting telescope has captured a cosmic battle between dark and light.

NuSTAR, formally known as the Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array, has observed a supermassive black hole's gravity tugging on X-ray light that's being emitted near that black hole.

That light is getting stretched and blurred, and researchers are getting to see it all in unprecedented detail, said NASA in a news release issued today.

It gets better. Apparently the black holes spin so rapidly that space and time are dragged around it! What that means precisely and the consequences are beyond my meager mind.

Scientists can now see the corona "lighting up material around the black hole," which allows them to study "the most extreme light-bending effects" of Albert Einstein's theory of general relativity, said NuSTAR's principal investigator, Fiona Harrison, in the news release. She is with the California Institute of Technology.

As if NuSTAR's observations and Einstein's theories aren't mind-boggling enough, NASA says the black hole Markarian 335 "spins so rapidly that space and time are dragged around with it."

It's not so much that the mass generates the *pull*

Its the initial exo-implosions, Such as in the early development in the Galaxy and object so large would accumilate so much mass that the attracting forces overwhelming the stabability of the object.

The idea is that since the center of galaxies drawn so much mass and energy. That this initial implosion will sustain velocity as long as it has mass to convert to *non reacting charcoal* Like process.
As many things can be incerated into just Ash. Likewise everything that is crushed its turned into something else.

Tho what we need to think about is that in a perfect vacume out of the reach of a black hole matter is forming and collecting normally. So peices that don't mix are not forced together. Like how hydrogen requires at least 1 electron to be a hydrogen atom. If you force particles that repell each other and fuse them there should be no logical function for it as far as attaching to matter and having ion and proton charges.

so pretty much the initial ex-implosion contains the same pressures enough to rip apart atoms and supressing the exploding energy that would otherwise be released. It's possible for particles to have physical function after being crushed but the fact is so much *random* is tossed into it.
That the likely hood of proper charged fragments meeting and colliding in these funnels and creating a ion proton influencing particle would be extremely rare if and when it does occure.

So the majority of space appears to be empty. But non-ionized particles cannot carry or pass electrons.
So they don't bond with what we understand as the building blocks of the physical universe. They don't form black matter molecules within regular molecules. So we percieve these things as not existing Since everything withing our physical realm of understanding reacts with charged particles such as protons neutrons and electrons. Positive neutral and negative charges Hense their names.

All atoms are made of these, Neutrons are the neutral charge that pulls both electrons and protons. Atoms are made up of neutrons with protons attached to them, Well the electrons orbit outside, repelled by the positron by attracted by the neutron. The electron spins rapidly around these particles. Generating an effect sort of like a fan. When the fan is off you can see that its much smaller than the surface area it is taking up. When you speed the fan up it gives the illusion that there is a solid object, Such as a circle when you spin it really fast. Electrons are no different. Its the fast orbits that create the illusion of its linar pathways generating a physical ball or elongated shape, Sliver. What ever these atoms carry and look like.

Black holes are funnels, Not solid objects holding infinite density. So yes objects would spin around the eye very rapidly because that's what vortexs do. Black holes are vortexs and all the mass they converge into random gets shot out both sides of the vortex where it funnels it out. I believe scientists can see traces of these actions occuring.

Tho all the mass crushed in this way will at some point return to regular mass. I'm sure the whole process can be drawn out how this occures, And im sure there is more options for how this can occure given that once things are in a perfect vacume such as open space it becomes much more easier to combine mass. What scientists are viewing when light becomes blurry in the black hole is the physical atoms themselves being ripped apart as they are flying around in a circle towards its doom.

The good side to all this is that mass will be in a sleeping state. Where it can recover any lost energy well it existed as a rock or light, gas, or what ever.

Have you ever read "Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There" by Lewis Carroll? There's a bit where Alice is told she has to run as fast as she can just to stay in the same place.

"Well, in our country," said Alice, still panting a little, "you'd generally get to somewhere else—if you run very fast for a long time, as we've been doing."
"A slow sort of country!" said the Queen. "Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!"

Near a rapidly-rotating black hole, space-time is moving so fast that it carries you with it. In order to remain in the same place, you'd have to move faster than the speed of light in the opposite direction. It's called Frame-dragging. More mindblowing details: en.wikipedia.org...

It's like one of those roundabout attractions at the funfair. Some actually have multiple sets of rings that rotate at different speeds so the ones inside spin faster than the ones outside. That's what frame dragging is like.

You could also model it by making a cup of coffee, stirring it, then adding some sugar or more coffee grains at the perimeter. The different rotation speeds will lead to grains being pulled into the center of the vortex.

Dragging time around, means that things go slower. The faster your velocity, the slower the rest of the universe seems to be moving. This allows for unstable sub-atomic particles traveling close to the speed of light to live longer than they otherwise would if they were stationary. In sci-fi terminology it's like a stasis-pod to keep anything from aging. So if you could get a restaurant/spaceship into an orbit around a black hole, you could in theory live long enough to own a restaurant at the end of the universe.

So...if we can make artificial black holes we can bend space/time and travel the stars?

I might book a table at Milliway's.

I read somewhere (can't remember where) about a theory that a black hole is a singularity and actually doesn't exist for long at all. But due to its intense effects on time and space surrounding it, it appears to go on forever. Kind of like in that Stargate SG-1 episode where they are connected to a planet being swallowed by a black hole, and the people trapped appear to be still, and time inside the mountain goes by a lot slower compared to outside the base.

The universe is full of weird and wonderful things and we are not even beginning to scratch the surface on what we know about it. Just imagine what we could learn if our efforts were fully focused on knowledge and benefiting the human condition, rather than all the crap that goes on in the world for the benefit of a few.

I couldn't agree more. If we focused out energies on exploration, advancement, and improved intelligence instead of civil unrest and politics, who knows .... I suppose that is the problem with so many different people with different perspectives and agendas, etc. The classic "too many cooks in the kitchen" issue.

This simply boggles my mind. The struggle wrapping my head around the concept of altering time. Perhaps my view of time is different than what is being referenced. How can 24 hours pass on Earth but not the same 24 hours pass around the black hole? Is it that time is slowed or the effects of time?

Can you please expound on what you mean by "mass will be in a sleeping state"?

because all physical mass relies in very specific recipies in order to * exist * in the physical universe.

That means that if you managed to force things into particles where polar opposites become enfused. So tighly that they negate each other and cannot pull apart.

It may take *eons* for the tight grip to eventually unlodge them.

Let me try to explain something to you When ever you look in a microscrop all you see are *slivers* and scentists are struggling to understand that those slivers themselves hold even tinier slivers. The electrons are attracted by these uniform patterns that conduct force and channel it. Such as Neutrons attract positrons. Acting as what scientists call the Strong force, Where as they call electrons the weak force. Another name for this is Positive and negative. Where Neutrons are neutral because they attract both electrons and protons. Beyond all that. Those electrons are made of sub slivers. Each of them bonded to its specific resination frequency. Frequencies are created by vibration and vibration is an outlet of Entropy.

So in order to preserve mass these particles must stop vibrating. Black holes allow this to occure as *random* Truely the only real random in the universe. Is tossed and compacted together reguardless of laws of *attraction*

The laws of force are colliding these particles and not allowing Expansion. Without expansion they cannot seperate rapidly upon collision, And the collision is not neutrons, Not electrons and not even protons. Because the guts, The slivers of all these particles are detached to its smallest fragments possible and reassmbled.

There is no Infinite density Because once the crushing action is complete it becomes immune to further compacting. As water seperates in a storm and comes down in drops, The black hole is like hurricane/tornado in space, It will channel the flow out both sides. Which creates horizontal Galaxies. Because the jet streams hold the galaxy in place as the 2 forces sanwhich together. So stars don't go flying outside of the galaxy. The force of the moving mass creation a vast electromagnetic feild of gammarays surrounding our galaxy. As the partcles are still there and are moving.

The sleeping state refers to the fact that these paricles have lost their ability hold an electric charge.

As for using black holes to travel. As i stated above black holes are vortexs quite literally.
You could create a black hole and travel along its path to generate a tunnel that will suck you to your destination as long as you feed it energy/mass.

New energy creation tecniques could unlock inter-galatic space travel. Not just interstellar space travel.

thanks for asking the question. Im just a theorist but im trying to help scientists that may read anyways.
