WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama is loosening restrictions on lobbyists who want to serve on federal advisory boards, a White House official said on Tuesday, a setback to the president’s efforts to tamp down special interest influence in Washington.

Obama came to office pledging to curtail the sway of lobbyists and banned lobbyists from serving on such panels, which guide government policy on a range of topics ranging from cancer to towing safety.

This dosen't sound like a socialist to me. Some of the conservative members claim Obama is kommie/socialist. This attitude smacks more of a neocon sell out to the Corporate Oligarchy doesn't it?

A spokeswoman for the White House Office of Management and Budget said the administration was revising its earlier guidance on lobbyists serving on federal advisory panels to clarify that lobbyists may now serve on such panels when they are representing the views of a particular group.

There are more than 1,000 federal advisory committees."

Lobbyists should not be allowed to serve on any advisory boards at all. As far as I am concerned lobbyists should not be allowed in any state or federal capital city. That would be like the fox guarding the hen house. Why don't the Republicans put a stop to this. Or are they in on the take.

I don't understand how anyone could compare Obama as a Communist or even a Socialist. Not when the majority of his cabinet is filled with various former industry execs. All hail the Corporate Techno-Oligarchy!

That's all either side is anymore. Everyone has sold out to our new Man Made God's. The Corporations. Multinational Corporations are wealthier, more powerful and more influential than most other Nations on this planet.

They've been given Rights, both Natural and Legal. They never die, eat, sleep, feel pain, etc...

They just get bigger and richer and eat up more and more of everything. They are the Monsters we humans have created that have gone beyond our control and we now work for them.

They have taken over Government, Military, Education, Everything.

The Lobbyists are just their Minions who spread out like parasites and latch on to and control their hosts.

They get out of paying taxes, or taking responsibility for their actions. They enslave people and property. They murder, rape and destroy everything in the pursuit of profit alone.

I can go on but I think you get the idea.

This planet is in the Process of a Hostile Corporate Takeover. The populous is being downsized and replaced. The Property is being redistributed along with the wealth and power. There are no sides anymore and haven't been for a long time. That's how a One World Control is going to happen. It's going to Monopolized just like any other business. Only this time it's for the whole Planet and whatever may be living upon it.

from the NYTimes article....

Under a new rule, registered lobbyists whom Mr. Obama had previously barred from serving on government advisory boards may now participate if they are representing companies or groups and not acting on their own behalf.
??? So they must "represent" companies or groups ?

The change was published in the Federal Register and took effect immediately, the administration said. It comes after the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia rejected the Obama administration’s efforts to dismiss a lawsuit by six lobbyists who challenged the ban’s constitutionality after being excluded from a trade advisory committee. The lobbyists said their First Amendment rights to petition the government had been violated.

Looks like Obama was trying to circumvent the Constitution again ?

It almost sounds like he was trying to stop this from happening but got over ruled by the appeals court. Not sure if I'm reading that correctly but it sounds like Big Money bought their way into the courts and went over Obama's "Helmet"!!

What a mess! In my best Mr. Greenjeans voice, "Can you say conflict of interest...sure, knew ya could." Having lobbyists on an advisory board is like having jewel thieves run security for a jeweler store.

Is there an election coming within the forseable future and many have pressured him in order to get their running money?

The reason our politics are so weak is that only the rich and elite can afford to run and until some method of providing public money to fund good candidates - or candidates with potential to become Statesmen and who understand the pressures of life for the ordinary public, you will get what we have government by the wealth barons and its pretty poor just look at cameron's successes and abysmal failures.

You're a fool for even believing there is a difference in parties when your a politician. When you say, " Sounds neo con to me" do you really think the people running this planet care about republican or democrat? its a brilliant scheme to keep us fighting each other and not them.

Another revolving door! The politicians allow lobbying and accept "campaign donations", doing favours for the lobbyists while in office. When they leave, they move immediately into those corporations they were lobbying for, or even become high paid lobbyists themselves, using the network of fellow politicians and lawmakers they made during their time in office as handy contacts. It's all corrupt of course, but they get to investigate themselves if anyone objects. When you make the rules, and know all the deliberate legal loopholes, you can do no wrong.

Actually he is a Marxist Maoist Commie mixed with criminal enterprising learned from Tony Rezko, and aided by same. Whatever works is used.
Many of Obama's plays come right from the commie handbook.

Just because he is going to payback a few favors and allow some lobbyists to have more influence somehow eliminates him as those things?
"Just business" like Al Pacino said once..

His friend Van Jones is STILL on Obama's payroll at 100k_ a year and he is a self admitted commie.

In fact, most of Obama's teachers are all the things I described Obama as being..
Why hide it? Obama doesn't

Probably should work on your clarity. In 2009, Obama placed a ban against lobbyists serving in government. Several lobbyists declared that "unconstitutional" and sued, stating that it impeded their First Amendment right to "petition" the government. It's currently in the US Court of Appeals.

So, if you're saying that lobbyists should have a Constitutional right to set up shop in our federal advisory boards, then sure, Obama was circumventing the constitution. However, I don't see anything in the First Amendment that says representatives of powerful lobbies should be given positions in federal advisory boards. They can petition the government all they want but it shouldn't make it so that their being appointed to a federal advisory board is guaranteed because they are a lobbyist.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I've highlighted the section that these lobbyists are claiming is their First Amendment right to be placed onto governmental advisory boards. These committees and boards are very, very small and are generally pulled from those who know the industry or what have you. Most people don't have ability to get placed on one of these boards so why should a registered lobbyist have that as a right?

Are you saying, by stating that "Obama is circumventing the Constitution again", that you believe that lobbyists should have the special right of being placed on advisory boards and committees?

Actually pretty thorough article discussing the issue:

You forgot to mention that I was questioning.

My actual quote is : "Looks like Obama was trying to circumvent the Constitution again ?"

To answer your question: "No". It should not be a "special right".

But I don't know whether or not it is a Constitutional right.
