Gun fight? National political donors spend $100,000's on local Milwaukee sheriff's race

This is a Democrat on Democrat fight.

Both candidates are running as Democrats. The winner moves on to the November general election. However, since no Republicans are in that contest, Tuesday’s winner will most likely become the next county sheriff.

I know that if I lived in Milwaukee County I would vote for Sheriff Clark in a heartbeat. He speaks the truth and who doesn't like that? It's not nice truth...but it's the truth nonetheless.

And now that idiot Bloomberg has decided to waste more of his money.

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg - who through his political group has publicly committed to spending $50 million on gun-control politics in 2014 – has paid $150,000 to air a series of television ads targeting Clarke’s conservative pro-gun policies.

Bloomberg is not even a citizen of Wisconsin...why must he try to jam his beliefs down others throat. He's as bad as a religious fanatic. I hope he ends up broke and penniless.

I think that Sheriff Clark will be going the way of Governor Walker. Re-elected.

The good sheriff was just on GB, love the way this guy makes sense. During the interview he said the opposition has already spent 1/2 million dollars to defeat him. You wanna know how important the second amendment is to these people and removing it from you this is the race. What is this sheriff's salary? Probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 75K a year and this is what he is up against. Hopefully Wisconsin is paying close attention to what really is going on and continues this mans employment. We need more like him.

His views aside, I don't hold much stock in the idea that he's our last bastion of hope if we want to keep the 2nd amendment around. I was born and raised on the North Side and I have personally watched the city transform (and not always for the better).

I know it's not all his fault, but ultimately it's the man at the top right? My home gets broken into, ADT alarm goes off, and the police say we have to call ADT instead. Those gunshots down the road? The detectives came 4 days later AFTER a body was discovered in a house. The guy that mugged me in the park at 2pm on a sunny day? Well what in the hell is a guy like you doing in this park anyways, right Sheriff?

I want my Congress and Supreme Court to tackle attacks on the 2nd amendment. I wan't my Sheriff to answer and handle local 911 calls. Just my 2 cents

Not sure how it goes in Wisconsin... but Here in okie land city cops answer those calls not Sherriff's, the sheriff normally handles rural area calls, and of course speeding tickets to keep the cheddar flowing.

At least for us... a Sherriff deputy is usually much easier to deal with, seems like the bullies or wanna be bullies from high school end up city cops.

Not a waste. Buying a politician is one of the best investments you can make in this economy. Look how well it has paid off for the insurance industry.

Well, as the saying goes, "When seconds count, the cops are minutes away." Even they admit it.

Milwaukee County is pretty much all city. And then of course, every municipality has their own force. The rest of Wisconsin is pretty much how you say.

But every county and parish has a sheriff's dept. to the best of my knowledge.

Fair enough, but keep in mind that if the socialists ever do go for the guns, they are going to need their local thugs to do their bidding, otherwise it has zero chance of success (which I believe is the case anyway).

That's why I wanted to put his beliefs aside for the time being. He's passionate, no doubt. He flat out told us to arm ourselves. And while I understand he doesn't control the funding (which in many cases both with MPD and the Sheriffs Dept. are the reason why we don't have enough cops on the force and on patrol), there seems to be a "leeway" with the whole "buck stops here" concept.

Also, I just wanted to add that after the Bay View Massacre in 1886, Milwaukee firmly booted R & D's out of office in droves and elected...Socialists. If anybody tries to take the guns, there will be blood. And if blood spills (no matter who orders it) we might be facing another "changing of the tide". It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see a Socialist back in office (although, he'd have to change the name "socialist" to something else considering how the word is tossed around in a ridiculous fashion these days).

And TDawg, I agree. Arming yourself is at the very least a first line of defense that doesn't have a wait time. I just have a huge mix of emotions seeing the problems in this city in one hand, and my property tax bill in the other hand. I wish more people would put their first amendment to use and organize themselves (and yes, actually go outside and march instead of hitting "like" on a meme). The 2nd amendment talk could be all but irrelevant if we could change the "every man for himself" culture I feel here sometimes.

Exactly what TDawgRex said. I've had incidents in my neighborhood and they are both there in equal numbers. I see more Sheriffs on 45 pulling people over than patrolling the city, but they answer calls just the same. Warrants (even a child support dodger across the street from me), car chases, and no-knocks for anything you can imagine sometimes have both MPD and the Sheriff.

Even though I have lived all over this world, I feel that Wisconsin is my true home that I can always return to. I've always hated the cities, and did my high school years up near the Dells area and yes, I know that problems regarding crime are everywhere.

But I also feel that the first two amendments are joined at the hip so to speak. If we lose one, we lose the other automatically and the rest will tumble like dominoes.

I make my voice heard through media, like ATS, letters to those who supposedly represent me and the media. More often than not though, just talking to people.

I took part in the early Tea Party and Occupy movements and kicked them to the curb when I believed that they had became compromised by something larger and their message changed.

Yes, it currently is "every man for himself", but there is a unifying message out there and many are seeing it. They're just sitting on the fence after being burned so many times. It's up to us to get them off that fence. Which side they land on I really don't care, just as long as I know where they stand.

Yea the biggest city I have lived near is either Tampa Fl, Or Oklahoma city... neither one really counts as a big city to me.

I have no doubt when it gets that big, things are run different and I got no clue about that.

Your opinion and experience is worth much more than 2¢ but this sherriff seems to be a rare breed, he wants the citizens to own firearms and have the ability to protect themselves by his interview. This is something in my experience the police don't want. As far as protections you are correct the courts are there for that, but in terms of implementation the sheriff seems great.

He won and all that money was blown on a lost cause. Well, it wasn't necessarily blown as it did go into paychecks to people for producing all those ads, So I see it that way as another plus.
