Part of the problem that I have noticed (especially where I live in Texas) is that we have good local people with good ideas who run and get elected. BUT by the time they have spent 1 year in Washington they seem to get used to the parties and backdoor deals etc....

Once they suck you in, you can't get out. Its almost like brainwashing to a certain extent. The Federal Government is a big ship in the water and turning it around takes so long, it never happens. We in America are quickly headed down a "Socialist" path and it is gonna suck all the way down the drain. The system is to big to change at this point.

So Obama and/or the next POTUS will continue to lie just like every politician lies and we will continue to shake our heads and argue over which side is right and blah, blah, blah..........

I would agree with most of that. But I dont think the system is too big to change. It is big, and it has everyone tied to it. Changing the system means changing the way we live. Things would get tough for a while it would be a very bumpy road but we would come out the other side a lot better off. The people in the future will have a much better chance

I am sorry, but seeing the name Bernie Sanders, I had to reply. As many times as that man has put Government employees (i.e. VA) ahead of Veterans, I cannot stand the man.

How can you tell a politician is lying? Their lips are moving!

It's the same everywhere. This is why we always have career politicians and the main parties being pushed, to keep the status quo. It beggars belief seeing the same faces voted back into office time and time again, no matter how much BS they spew. I think the old line about power corrupting is also a little misleading. The people seeking power are already corrupt, but higher office and more power just enables a higher degree of corruption and protection from prosecution.

Corruption among these career politicians is rife and they care little, if anything at all, about the country, but instead focus on enriching themselves and lining up lucrative positions for when they leave "public service". The only way it will ever change though is for the main 2 parties to be disbanded, and career staff to be carefully monitored in their fixed term appointments. Any transgression meaning removal of all benefits, pension rights and prosecution. In short, a bit of oversight by the people, although many these days seem so dumbed down it probably wouldn't work.

I think I'll subscribe to PLF as opposed to OLF because, at this point, I'm just tired of listening to politicians. Even the ones I like seem to have a shady feel to them.

By the way, I think I found a picture of Beezzer. He added an extra z in his name to hide his true identity, but I got you!

You nailed it. Until a zero-tolerance policy by the public for their elected leaders exists and is ENFORCED vigorously and without leniency, this will continue indefinitely.

The problem is that we truly do get the leaders we deserve. If we demand integrity in our leaders, that would mean demanding integrity in ourselves. How many people anymore actually have true integrity? Most people would rather have leaders they can excuse for lying because then it makes them feel better about their own lack of honesty.

Except that Clinton was impeached for not being honest under oath, and we can see where that got us. Pretty soon a lie was made up and bought by everyone around that he was impeached for having sex ... NO, he was impeached for lying under oath ... not being honest when under oath promising to BE HONEST. So, the American public allowed that little slight of hand to be able to excuse Clinton's lie when questioned under oath.

Do you think a contract or oath makes any difference or would make any difference?

The problem is that the American people, We the People, suffer from a fundamental unwillingness to be honest ourselves so we don't demand it in our leadership, and Obama is what it nets us.
