Nigeria's commercial capital Lagos has 10 confirmed cases of Ebola, up from seven at the last count, and two patients have died, including the Liberian who brought the virus in, the health minister has revealed.

Death toll tops 1000 in West Africa



THE World Health Organization says the death toll in the Ebola outbreak in West Africa has passed 1,000. The UN health agency said in a news release on Monday that 1,013 people have died in the outbreak, which has hit Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and possibly Nigeria.

What a horrible way to die.. S&F... Let us all hope those who are dealing with this stuff get a handle on its spread.. I read someplace last week there were 1800+ infected.... so at this point we can expect more deaths.

The thing about Lagos is that they more or less knew from the start what he had, so they have a chance at keeping it contained there. Guinea, Sierra Leonne, and Liberia never had that chance. Nigeria, on the other hand, has a clear "Patient Zero" type scenario here. Let's hope it's all they have to deal with, and they can keep a handle on it. If they can, then there is a chance that they can feed enough supportive care the infected to minimize their losses and save some who would otherwise not have a chance.
