How would US like if Mexico suddenly elects a communist government backed and funded by the Chinese. I doubt US will keep quiet.

Ever heard of a little island called Cuba you know 90 miles south of Fla?

They had a communist government and we haven't invaded them yet, although we have a base there they haven't annexed any part of it.

The US will not say anything about it as it isn't their concern unless they send military across the border. Do you think the US always liked the presidents of Mexico?

We have border patrol being shot at by Mexican military, and we have had DEA agents murdered in Mexico yet we still haven't invaded Mexico.

Forget about Cuba at 90 miles. What is at 80km i.e. barely 60 miles from Russian border is City of Donetsk. Time is ripe for Russia to deploy S-300 which good range of 150 kms and shoot down any and all planes and helicopters of the Junta forces. This alone will be a big relief for rebels on the ground.

This also means city and battle theater is merely 2-3 minutes of cruise speed for Su-27/30s. Russia should send these in to bombard and destroy the Junta forces on ground.

Israel violates and bombs the airspace and assets of Syria and others several times a year and they do not get any sanctions.

Time for Russia to avail same facilities.

Previous post I termed Donetsk at 150 kms and that was wrong.

Only three years ago, the US claimed that the Libyan regime of Muammar Gaddafi might launch armed repression in Benghazi and seized upon it to launch a bloody war that devastated Libya, toppled the Gaddafi regime, and led to the brutal murder of Gaddafi himself.

Assault on Donetsk Risks War with Russia

Except of course the USA did not actually launch any war in Libya at all - Gaddafi did that all by himself.
What is it with dictators and oppression anyway?

You never answered why it is that Putin can kill 250,000 people putting down rebellion in Russia, but you object to a democratic Ukraine putting down a rebellion with only (so far) 1% of that butchers bill.

And TSurfer to be fair (something Victor clearly knows little about) doesn't Bay of Pigs ring a bell??

But then the comparisons end - when the USA got caught it was embarrassed - not so much with Russia - rather it drafts a few thousand Putin's Puppies like Victor to tell us that black is white!! Apparently Russia thinks we're all as ill informed as its own population!!

Except by the whole Arab/Moslem world - plus of course there is actually a state of war there, plus of course Syria does actually represent a threat to Israel.

But apart from that I am impressed how pathetically wrong you are

Time for Russia to avail same facilities.

sure - fly over Syria all you want.

it wasn't the only thing you were wrong about - but I'm not surprised it is the only thing you recognised - who told you??

Russia has a very strong case of intervening in the conflict via Air Force and Air Defense assets.

An assault on major cities will result in lots of civilian causalities which need to be avoided even at the cost of intervention.

Ukraine with its fascist, nazi agendas do present a serious threat to Russia and its internal demographics.

These Nazis have already proven to be "very evil" to the common Russian civilians in the S-E Ukraine region.

Russia is doing Europe a major favor by again throwing efforts to crush Nazi and Fascist groups and ideologies.

No-one has the right to deny humanitarian aid to anyone, the joke called the UN union is showing its true colors.

Laughable - Ukraine's ""fascist Nazi agenda" involves allowing plurality of political parties, allowing regional politics, allowing rule of law, holding genuine elections - all things Russia does not do or allow.

And in the self-styled DPR we have a self appointed "Prime minister" - appointed from Moscow.....how does that sit with being not fascist?

You may also recall that it is eth DPR that is shooting people after drum head trials or indeed carrying out summary executions- not the Government of Ukraine.

I think Moscow has a hell of a cheek calling ANYONE else fascist - it is the one invading its neighbor in breach of a treaty only 20 years old, it is MOSCOW beating up rubbish allegations of "repression" of Russians that did not ever happen - and yes I've been chatting online to Russian speaking Ukrainians for 3-4 years now - they never mentioned any repression - just corruption and low wages - which they were hoping moving closer to Europe would help fix - they reject Russia as a state run by kleptocrats.

by any measure it is Russia that is the darling of the European right wing fascists - not Kiev!

glend the headline is inaccurate - if you go to the actual article it does not say that the EU warns against any action in Ukraine - what it warned against was any UNILATERAL ACTION.

As it happens Russia is perfectly able to provide humanitarian assistance and het Ukrainian government is allowing it - it is Russian military that are the problem - as they have been for over half a year now - Ukraine has an absolute right to not allow Russian military in its country - something Russia is happy to ignore by proxy.

Has Ukraine sent any weapons, or fighters over the border to cause trouble...because Russia has in Ukraine.

These Nazis have already proven to be "very evil" to the common Russian civilians in the S-E Ukraine region.

Unlike the true neo Nazi Pavel Gubarev and his separatists. Killing civilians and dumping their bodies into a mass grave, or kidnapping them and torturing them until someone paid a ransom...things like that.

Russia is doing Europe a major favor by again throwing efforts to crush Nazi and Fascist groups and ideologies.

While they allow it to happen in their own government and in Russia in general...nice favor there. Maybe he should worry about those things in his own country before trying to be the police in another.

I find it laughable seeing people stating that Russia has no business in Ukraine and should not interfere. Seriously?
Take a look at US / UK and other EU nation's interference in other sovereign states over the last couple of decades. At least Russia is looking after it's own interests, on it's own doorstep, rather than launching massive military attacks against other nations thousands of miles from it's borders. Something the US and UK cannot claim to have been doing.

There are those within the US Government, EU and NATO itching for war and have been ramping up the rhetoric at an incredible pace recently. Seems International Law these days is whatever our governments say it is, and not as written, and the UN becomes more of a joke every day.

and people usually condemn all those actions too - or haven't you been reading this board??

NATO is in a totally crappy position for war with Russia - for the last decade they've been assuming that Russia was becoming civilized - so there have been almost no precautions taken against any sort of Russia aggression, and military have been generally downsizing - that's an odd way to be "itching for war", and makes me think you have no idea what you are talking about.

Exactly - every NATO nation bar the US has actually been spending less than the required minimum under the Alliance rules, even the UK - it is only since the Russian's began playing silly buggers that there have been calls to up spending back to the minimum 2% of GDP.

What Russia has done has actually galvanised NATO into treating them as a threat - the latest SDR in the UK assumed there would be no major "state on state" action ever again and led to our Military begin re-structuring into a rapid reaction force meant to counter non-state threats - NATO is not ready for war.

That said, Russia would still be biting off more than it could chew by taking on this weakened NATO. Outnumbered in every department and in each of those it is outclassed by technology and training. Don't forget, prior to both World Wars, the UK had a tiny Army and was not prepared in any way for War - we still got the job done though.

I also find it quite annoying the "pro-Russia" crowd harp on about this "humanitarian disaster" and act as if Russia is being all caring, but completely ignore the brutality by which Russia put down it's own internal rebellions.

Where was the concern for civilians then? Where were the outcries when civilians where being summarily executed by Russian forces? Where were the complaints about the use of ballistic missiles in Chechnya and Georgia?

And as for the continued use of the "Nazi regime" or "Junta" to describe Kiev - grrrrrrr - it just smacks of blatant dishonesty.

Bloody hypocrites, the lot of them...
