US Squadron of AC- 130 ' could end ISIS in few months time. AC-130' accompanied by recon and he'll fire equipped drones could clear ISIS out in a very precision way we very little to no ground support.

I hope Obama will man up for this. I back his peaceful strategies around the world but ISIS are not human beings like the rest of us.

They are uncivlized pathetic animals who do not deserve normal justice or consideration.

AC-130 can kill and destroy them with almost no civilian casualties.

They can run but they will just die tired.

I agree, the AC-130 is a effective cleansing tool.

He should send

6 AC-130
6 Y-F23
12 A-10 Thunderbolt (Warthog)
And 200 drones

Why won't they use this lethal weapon, in your opinion?

They might. Obama though might be scared too cause even though they are well defended aircraft if one is shot down they have large aircrew so large death count. This is exactly type war they are designed for though. Perfect hunting ground for them.

To be honest, i don't think it would destroy ISIS.

History has shown that air power is insufficient in dealing with guerrilla fighters, even when the air power is supported by specialist ground forces.

ISIS is a rare breed. They move like water.

One moment, ISIS fighters are hiding among civilian populations, the next, they are driving in convoys and operating as a traditional army. These guys are not the average fighter.

I don't think they will be uprooted easily.

I'd send every single one of them. Leave only enough home to keep flight crew training going. Make ISIS fear the night, fear sleep.

a reply to: daaskapital History has shown AC -130 IS EXCELLENT at killing guerrillas. Perfect for attacking convoys, and perfect for killing individual humans in urban environment.

This is no normal air power. It's like a flying brigade.

AC-130s are excellent air platforms for laying down heavy firepower. Problem I see with sending in AC-130s is that ISIS will just blend in with the civilian population, making it almost impossible without civilian casualities. I guess that would be considered calateral damage, but that sort of defeats the whole purpose of trying to save the very people being slaughtered.

O really?

When has the USA ever just been able to "bomb" its problems away.

Sheesh people never learn.

AC-130s were used in Vietnam, and the USA still lost that war.

While the AC-130 is an effective weapon, i don't think airpower alone can defeat ISIS.

The destruction of ISIS is going to need ground forces, as well as significant airpower. Even then, allied forces would have a hard time differentiating ISIS from the average civilian, if they so choose to use the public as their cover.

while the AC 130 is a great weapon,it was mainly used in vietnam. As mentioned above, this combat is in a urban area, lots of collateral damage. In nam,it was used against a bunch of guys with ak's,ISIS has truck mounted anti aircraft guns. The AC is pretty slow,an easy target.Personally,I think a bunch of warthogs would do better than the f18 can do.And a lot cheaper!

What about Libya, it worked there.
Also, ISIS isn’t in a forest or jungle like the Vietnamese, they are in a desert. They cant really hide…. Moving around in those trucks, aren't they sitting ducks...Is it not much easier to just pound them and do mucho damage.
You have the Kurds and even the ordinary Iraqis and all those Shia militias there.

Of course I am no expert on military logistics.
Who is the military expert on ATS?

Seems like a good start.
Do we even have a slight idea of how large ISIS is?

Doesn't matter...

Iraq is broken and need a hard restart..
They should flatten the land, and create a huge forest instead with no humans allowed
nature is more balanced that way

Yep right on board with you.........

Speaking from experience on the ground, as you and I have both stated in other threads.........bombs dont fix the problem....

They sure help of course, air support was a god send to men on the ground........

But it will not irraticate ISIS.......you have to remember they are constantly being reinforced by people coming in from other places........

As has been stated 13yrs at war in the middle east has proven you cannot fix Radical Religious Psychopaths with bombs......

And when the gunships encounter heavy ground defenses and get slaughtered? What then? B-52s to carpet bomb three hell out of them?
