With Russia getting more powerful it controls it, hence Russia won`t be allowed to be prosperous.

So it has nothing to do with what The Kremlin decides or does, Russia isn`t allowed to become prosperous which is why the excuse to attack Russia economically would have happened anyway and has nothing to do with whatever action Putin and the rest of The Kremlin have done.

Rule one if a dicatator blame someone else. EvIl Amaricans or elves it's all the same. I'm not the one destroying the country they are. Hate to destroy RUSSIANS Ego but there so far down on the US list of important things a terrorist group passed them. Obama could care less what Russia does as long as they don't invade there neighbors. And even there it's nothing more than speeches. He isn't even bothering to negotiate with Putin hes letting Europe do it.

If Obama was in any way concerned the state department would be all over it. See the US doesn't see Russia as a threat nor do they see it as a challenge to world supremacy the only challenge globaly Is China let's be honest if Russia didn't have nukes they wouldn't even be considered a major country.

And that is precisely why Putin is having a fit globally Russia influenced has deminished. Even China in there trade deal now wanuts to call it a loan. So China is treating them like a 3rd world country my how the tables have turned.

That he doesn't understand context and that The US is evil and trying to destroy Russia. Oby problem is they spent bilions trying to save it. Things were so bad they had to use US money to build roads and schools.

Meanwhile, back on topic:

Russia Raises Key Rate to 17%

Central Bank of Russia hiked its benchmark interest rate by 650 basis points to 17 percent, effective December 16th. It was the biggest increase since 1998 default, aimed at limiting ruble depreciation and inflation risks.

It was the sixth rate hike this year after more than $80 billion spent from its reserves failed to stop a selloff of the ruble.

On December 15th, the ruble dropped 9.7 percent to 64.4455 a dollar, the lowest on record. It brings its plunge this year to 49 percent.

Would one of you fan boys please explain how Putin's policies have been good for the Russian people? With energy prices plummeting, Putin needs to keep the civil war in Syria boiling so that Russia can increase arms sales to compensate.

WIth the RuSusan people starting to panic I'm sure he'll make up someone. Did you know politicians are starting to turn on the Russian central bank. Accusing them of committing treason. The Russian people are busy trying to dump the Ruble buying big ticket items such as appliances and cars before the Ruble plumets further. They need items they can trade to many remeber the Soviet Union crash. As far as who's next to blame evil US or Fascists is his fall back but could just as easily be fairies or gnomes. He's last ditch effort will be to go after Russian oligarchs before any can remove him from his position as Czar. Oh wait I meant president with apparently a life term easy mistake.

Putin's dilemma is that the Official Story, as promulgated by the people no longer participating in this thread, is that sanctions will hurt Europe more than they will Russia, and that piling on sanctions of their own will allow Russia to break the backs of the evil Europeans. Since the opposite is happening, he cannot reverse his position without the fundamental fallacies becoming painfully obvious. His only course is now denial, which is why official economic figures from the Russian government have dried up since September.

Putin has decided to ultimately starve his people in order to mildly annoy some farmers outside of Russia.

And some dip-hi-s on ats think Putin is super duper clever for this move...

Interesting...but, it is politics on ATS..it never really did make a lot of sense

Individuals buying foreign currency with rubles accounts for half of Russia's capital outflow, President Vladimir Putin said.
"With respect to the capital outflow. Yes, indeed, most likely, our colleague is correct. But let's not forget something else: evidently, these figures need adjustments. This capital outflow we see today, 50% of it is currency exchange operations by Russian citizens," Putin said at a meeting with lawmakers from the Federal Assembly.

They make predictions and they done have just recently with possible 4,5% retraction for 2015, which is possible given that 54% of the economy is oil and petroleum based and thus accounts also in the numbers.

Do you still approve of Putin's handling of the situation? Here are the latest figures:

www.tradingeconomics.com...

And that's just the rate of inflation. It has trebled since 2010. Historically, Russians turn against their leaders when food becomes scarce. There are no bread riots yet, but we do have these developments:

Russia's Prosecutor General's Office has launched a wave of checks on food prices at major supermarkets across the country, as racing inflation stokes fears that the government will impose price controls.

A four-day sweep that began on Tuesday has already discovered price rises of 10 to 150 percent on basic foodstuffs, including meat, fish, milk and potatoes, the agency's spokeswoman Marina Gridneva told journalists on Wednesday, news agency TASS reported.

Gridneva said officials would scrutinize retailers' pricing policies and act against unjustified markups.

The Moscow Times

Obviously, price increases of 150% cannot possibly be due to market forces in the wake of international sanctions compounded by Vladimir Vladimirovich's brilliant policy of punishing Europe by not importing their food. It must be due to corrupt shopkeepers.

It's true!

But not to worry:

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered his government to rein in rising vodka prices, as he battles to preserve his popularity amid a worsening economic crisis.

Putin told a meeting with government officials and regional governors on Wednesday that expensive vodka prices encourage the production of bootleg spirits, which carry greater risks to people's health than legally produced alcohol.

Russia is facing its worst economic crisis since 1998, when the country devalued the ruble and defaulted on its debt. Putin's popularity is partly based on his reputation for providing prosperity and stability.

"The overshoot of vodka prices leads only to increasing consumption of bootleg [spirits]," said Putin, who is known for promoting a healthy lifestyle. "I think the relevant structures [government bodies] should think of that," he added.

The Moscow Times

Trust Czar Vladimir to look after the well being of his subjects.
