Freeze drying isn't very practical for consumers. I've looked into this...too much trouble and expensive.

Dehydrating is a better alternative, but I have to be honest, results vary.

That's kind of the gist I meant, drying basically, it doesn't sound appetising but might be a viable long term storage solution for those considering that option.

I would definitely watch the Food Channel (though I would have to hook up cable again) if they had a show for "Cooking for One."

I find cooking for many to be easy.

hi t-dawg,
there are plenty of online and YT's on cooking.
a freezer really helps. i make a batch of marinara sauce (for example) and break it up into portions and freeze.
i say marinara because it's very versatile. tomatoes fresh when in season are cheap, 4 cans would give you at least 4 meals.

lots of foods you can do that to. stews, soups, vegs (blanch first) meats of course if you see a bargain/sale. cut and wrap and freeze.

pasta and rice in an airtight food container will last a heck of a long time.
flour also. make your own bread dough. lol. pizza or bread is easy.

salads have to be eaten in a few days, slaw can keep a longer time if not dressed. i treat it like a salad, add what you want to it and i don't use mayo for dressing at all.

of course you would need a 1/2 day or so to do this stuff.
sorry for the OT OP.

Ah yes.... the ever so lovely "sin" tax.

Whoever thought that one up was a fricken genius. The sin tax makes for a great catchall and can be applied to damn near anything their little hearts desire - they just have to call it "sinful".

Guilting the populous into complying with an additional tax revenue. Something that the self righteous suckers people are more than happy to support, all the while patting themselves on the back.

The term "sin" has been used for centuries as a way of controlling/enslaving the masses. It seems to work quite nicely.

Yup, fricken genius invention.

Before you know it, pretty soon everything is going to be a "sin".... and thereby heavily taxed under the guise of "guilt by association".

Death and taxes, man.
Death and taxes.

"sin" tax......................WHAAAAAAAAAA!!!
separation of church and state!!

where the hell is the ACLU?

it makes sense for a prepper/survivalist or for the BOB.

but when you pass by a market twice a day, it doesn't.

For stating the truth? Why do you think I should be sympathetic with lazy individuals?

I'm not out to coddle lazy people. It does these poor fools a great dis-service.

Your heart might be in the right place, but the mind is.. elsewhere.

So lets see here , If one doesn't abide by your definition of eating healthy they are " Lazy ' fools "

Does eating healthy ( whatever that means ) produce this holier then thou attitude ?

Apparently you folks enjoy cooking. Many do not. I hate it. My Dr said I'm in perfect health and

we never addressed what I consume. This is not an attempt to demean you as an individual. I have noticed

this attitude in many many folks. I really don't get it. Ram Dass aka Richard Albert, a fairly spiritual fellow

was asked about his diet ( excluding huge doses of medicine
) he said " I eat what is placed in front of me "

I'd rather shrimp and rice however if offered a hot dog I'll eat it and give thanks for said food. No attitude

or judgement. I may or may not eat health. I will however never judge others by what they consume. Cheers

Plenty of Amish here where I live. I'll have to give it a whirl. But how log do they last after being ground? Do I need to keep the sprigs in a container or can I ground them all at once?

You can buy either fresh herbs, treat as fresh food, or dried herbs, which last lots longer, or even frozen.

Spices either can be bought dried whole or ground. Grinding as required tastes better though ready ground is more convenient. Most dried spices tend to last a few months.

Wow - this is absolutely astounding

This thread started as a discussion on how lobbyiests are trying to tax soda and then use the money to further their campaigns of demonization of the population.

It ended on a discussion of spices.

You all deserve what you are going to get!

food was one of the topics and people started discussing food. Wasn't trying to derail, was just answering what someone else had brought up.

I do apologize.

Not at all! Please don't apologise. People are paid to do exactly what happened in this thread. Derail any discussion of this topic as quickly as possible. Don't let the population see the "man behind the curtain" - so to speak.

We have fallen down the rabbit hole and our future can be imagined as the "hob-nailed boot of our "betters"" pressing on our throats - forever!

Paid?

I don't think anyone was paid to derail your thread. Since obesity was one of the topics, people started talking about food...

I don't think anyone else was paid to begin discussing food in your thread either, and certainly no one paid me to suggest what I did about spices and ethnic food when the topic came up.

Your overreacting, people eat, they like food, when obesity is being discussed, so will food be! Anyway, go back to discussing your topic. I apologize for answering a slightly off-topic post in your thread.

Not pointing you out individually, but it did derail quickly into a huge off topic Rachel Ray bull# thread with nothing to do with the OP. Other off topic threads get closed with the quickness but not this one. So obesity is the new doom porn since tobacco is already making enough money.

Many discussions lead to other topics. This happens at National level talks, the kitchen table, bars and yes, even ATS. This is how we talk, and yes, things may not go the way you want them too.

But let's get back on topic. How can we turn cigarette butts into a resource? Not just a waste product. I haven't seen that addressed. How can we recycle them into something that is useful, yer less harmful to the environment?

Because if you could provide me with that...I would throw money at that project.
