It really is the only band that I can think of that didn't sell out in the 80's. And I'm a Queen fan. In '84:

That is SO 70's. And:

I've requested that played at my funeral. It's apt.

And then Slaves and Masters 1990.

A little Purple metal:

Do you see any other 70's band that stayed honest and good that long?

Come on, sell out? A lot of bands from the 70's still made good music. AC/DC, The Clash, Pink Floyd to name a few..

You or I are in no position to state that the bands sold out to commercialism..it's all about making money and when you are in a band that's probably the biggest thing you are looking for which is fame and fortune..

Journey only became better when they became less of a true rock and roll band and become more acceptable to a greater group of fans...

Ooooh, love some of Deep Purple's tunes! Can't think of other bands off the top of my head, though surely there were many. Too busy now to look up old bands. I look forward to the replies in here.

I agree that Purple were consistently a great band over the decades , I still remember where I was when I first heard Perfect Strangers and how blown away I was by it ...what a comeback !

I disagree they're the only one though , I think Aerosmith fit nicely into that category too

Perhaps if you'd followed The Rabbit down the hole you'd have a broader perspective?

I TOTALLY agree with Uriah Heep but they were only an early 70's band. Awesome band but not a long term band. Aerosmith? Got some help from DMC to make them relevant again.

I had the pleasure in 1973 at the University of Bridgeport CT. Tickets were 2 bucks. Deep Purple was the main attraction and the back up band that came on first was some guy we really never heard of named Peter Frampton. So peter came on and said he would do his entire double album coming out in three months called Frampton comes alive...WELL OMG it just blew us away. Than Deep purple played for like 2 hours. To top it off for a encore both band came out to jam together...total concert was 5 hours long...FOR 2 BUCKS!

My daughter gave me a T shirt for my 59th birthday last year.." I my be old but I got to see all the Great bands"

I'm a big fan of Ritchie Blackmore's playing. I prefer the Rainbow Blackmore, but nonetheless, he came up with some exceptional ideas.

However, Perfect Strangers is one helluva comeback album! Quite a few albums to come out that year (King Crimson/Van Halen/Scorpions/Metallica), but I remember that album making a HUGE impact on me!

Man.... that dark-sounding breakdown riff in Perfect Strangers is just SICK! Not to mention, Ian Gillan just kills it!

I can't really comment on your opinion, because I can easily say King Crimson never really "sold out", and they're still active today, and have been active, albeit on an off since '68.

Either way, thanks for the Throwback Saturday!

Van Halen is hair band tripe.

Tom Petty actually had some decent tunes.

ACDC isn't the same. For Those About to Rock I'll give you but the rest isn't even close to old ACDC.

Try another insult. The next one might stick.

Considering your arguing about your opinion..lol

I'm going to guess you listen to a classic rock radio station called the bear or the goat..

can we at least agree that 80s music sucked? That's an opinion I can get behind.
