You do understand what this actually means, right? It simply means that infected people have access to airline travel providing the opportunity to come in contact with other populations of people. That's all. Nothing more.

If it's all the same with you guys I think I'll just choose to not worry about this and get all hysterical. You fine folks are free to make your own choices. With that I bow out of this discussion.

i don't see hysteria. i see realism. of course we all make our own choices, but it's better to make those choices with all the relevant information, don't you think?

The fact that it hasn't been documented doesn't mean it cant or wont happen.

Nice to see that you are so positive about this but,

personally, I'd rather err on the side of caution.

Large droplets and to "catch" it you have to be right there when they fly.

The link I provided stated that it is transmissible to surfaces. That would imply a sneeze into your hand and then grasping a door knob, faucet or toilet flush handle, for instance.

If you wipe a runny nose with you hand everything you touch is hot with the virus.

My mom carries a kleenex in her pocket, using it over and over to wipe her nose during allergic reactions to pollen and such.

Yuck…

Use a hanky once and dispose of it immediately. Carry Handiwipes to clean up with on the go. The "antibacterial" kind. Use them.

It's only communicable when symptoms appear not before. So still people who are contagious would appear sick. It takes 21days for the illness to show after exposure but you're not contagious during those 21 days. You're not contagious until the symptoms actually appear. reply to: BobAthome

I understand this is what you read someplace…..
What, just what if this, with many other viruses are contagious long before they show there ugly head...as it were.
West Nile has had its definition changed how many times now??
Smallpox was far worse than first thought of and how you got it.
We know very little in the big scheme of this thing.
Not making doomporn but, this can get out of hand in the blink of an eye.
Is this by design …..

Just sayin............

There are plenty of other nasties that are already in the water supply; Giardia, Legionella, Norovirus, Shigella, Campylobacter, Salmonella, Hepatitis A, Cryptosporidium, E.Coli, giving things like dysentry and diarrhea.
That's what the water treatment plants are for; they filter the water to remove sediment and add chlorine to kill
off everything else.

Yes but after the 21 days when the symptoms suddenly appear, could you be about to blow the candles out on your birthday cake, surrounded by everyone you know and instead sneeze all over the room, mumble that you don't feel good as you pass out face first into the cake?

That wouldn't be good.

Then why does she say "contrary to what has been seen in past outbreaks"? Airlines have been available in all previous outbreaks as well.

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed how strangely silent Obama has been about them bringing Ebola into the US?

I would think that the president of the US would want to make some kind of announcement to the people, at least to try to reassure them if nothing else.

I find this quite odd. He must be out golfing again or something?

Who made the decision to bring these people back to the States?

According to CDC director -

In a press conference Thursday, CDC director Dr. Tom Frieden stated that, for a patient who is infected, travel may be unsafe.

“There’s the potential that actual movement of the patient could do more harm than befit of more advanced, superior care outside the country [of infection],” he said.

I never excluded saliva from bodily fluids.
Either way, the pandemic we see in Africa is mainly caused by eating bush meat, getting infected and passing it onto family members, who then pass it onto close friends, etc.

It CAN be passed on through sneezing, but I'd imagine it would have to be literally sneezing on someones face and them licking their lips or something.

UPDATE...

Ebola outbreak: Royal Air Force 'on standby' to bring back infected Brits

The Royal Air Force’s Infection Prevention Control Team is likely to be placed on standby to collect UK citizens and return them to Britain in quarantine conditions if they are infected with Ebola.

The Royal Air Force could be called in to bring back UK citizens infected with the deadly Ebola disease from West Africa.

David Cameron has said that Ebola outbreak is a ‘very serious threat’ to the UK and the foreign secretary, Philip Hammond, is preparing to chair an emergency meeting today on how to tighten Britain’s defences against the virus.

Major Thomas Fletcher, of the Royal Army Medical Corps said it was likely the meeting would discuss putting the military on alert to ‘repatriate’ Britons infected with the disease.

The Royal Air Force’s Infection Prevention Control Team is likely to be placed on standby to collect UK citizens and return them to Britain in quarantine conditions.
