The F-35B program, using aircraft BF-4, completed the wet runway and crosswind testing that was needed to verify the 2B software for fleet release. According to Lockheed Martin, the results cleared the 20 degree crosswind envelope. That clears the envelope for conventional take off and landing, and short take off and landing. The results also appear to show a meaningful improvement over 4th generation aircraft.

Other milestones for the program include CF-1 (C model) and AF-4 reaching 500 flight hours, and CF-5 reaching 100 flight hours.

The Lockheed Martin F-35B has completed wet runway and crosswind testing, which comprised 37 missions over a 41 day period using aircraft BF-4.

“This testing is absolutely critical to 2B flight software fleet release and the Marine Corps’ [initial operating capability],” says J.D. McFarlan, Lockheed Martin's vice president for F-35 Test & Verification.
