Land for gas: Secret German deal could end Ukraine crisis

Bassago.....this is the worst possible deal for Ukrainians to secure peace and sets another international precedent that is wrong.

There is no point reffering to the Crimean refferendum as evidence they wanted to joing Russia when the Tatar ethnic minority and Ukrainians didnt take part in the refferendum as protest and there was evidence many of the ballots were pre-filled "for russia".

Once again, as in WW2.....Ukraine gets screwed by both Russia from the back and Germany from behind....

How would Merkel feel if Russia re-enacted its WW2 aquisition of Sudentland proince in Germanys north with their dodgy refferendum they held....then same again Hitler did invading Austria and again holding a didgy referendum.

And inregard to paying off that gas bill to Russia......Ukraine should use the same response Russia did when the courts found in favour of Shareholders in the former oil company YUKOS OPIl that was taken over by the Russian state. Russia said...."Dont you know theres a war coming to Europe?"

Russia isnt going to pay the billions to shareholders, and neither should Ukraine.

It is the (English speaking) AngloSaxon nose that creates problems everywhere by poking and interfering in peaceful matters.

Article also mentioned, Russia is Germany's #1 trade partner and Russia's trade with EU is nearly Half Trillion.

Why is USA trying to create problems here? It is afraid that non-English speaking Europe might join in with Germany and Russia as leaders leaving NATO in tatters and US facing competition from EuroAsian bloc in addition to China.

After 1991, usefulness of NATO diminished by alot but still it had reasons to be present to thwart misbehavior by Germany or Russia. However, on the contrary, it is the NATO which went on misbehaving by expanding eastwards and now knocking on the doors of Russia. That is something Russians will never live with and their actions have shown their resolve.

Melbourne_Militia, thank you for your input. I had to think on this perspective. The conclusion I've reached is no one wishes to be dominated and manipulated by others but unfortunately that's not what happens in the world. Power and force are what dominates the destiny of people and countries and it will be the same for Ukraine.

Not saying I agree with that idea but if your points were taken to their logical conclusion the Native Americans would throw everyone out of the US (which they should but can't) and the points you make would be resolved. Not going to happen in this world from what I see.

In this case I hope that the powers with the might to control things will resolve to chose a peaceful solution. It may not be right but perhaps more children will live and grow up to make things right.
