Told like the U.S Government told it from 1941 onwards.

Yet, they soon saw themselves as defenders of the world and started to intervene in foreign affairs. Would Qatar become a similar beast within the region?

They haven't so far, and have had one of the most advanced force structures in the area for a long time now. And yet, their forces rarely ever leave their own country, let alone involve themselves anywhere else.

It's called preparation. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. Prepare for something to go sideways, and for you to need your military, but hope you don't.

These people aren’t extremists, though they are fundamentalists.
Like I try to tell the Islamic haters over and over. You have very few Muslims who are crazy Jihadists and the vast majority are regular ordinary folks who actually are American allies, like Qatar, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Jordan, Egypt, Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.
Sure some of them are fundamentalist’s but they are no threat to anybody unless you go in their country and misbehave.

Why? Because they are a Muslim nation? Check it:

Qatar is home to USA's biggest military base in the Middle East. Qatar is the world's richest country per capita and has the highest human development in the Arab World; furthermore, it is recognized as a high income economy by the World Bank.[15][16] Qatar has the world's third largest natural gas reserves and oil reserves in excess of 25 billion barrels. Qatar has become an influential player in the Arab world. Qatar supported several rebel groups during the Arab Spring both financially and by asserting global influence through its expanding media group, Al Jazeera Media Network.[17][18][19] Qatar will host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, becoming the first Arab country to host the event.

Doesn't sound like an extremist country to me.

Dig a bit deeper then.

Qatar is mostly under Sharia law. In fact they allow drinking, but set it up as a trap. You need a special license to drink. They will gladly sell to you without it, and then they pick up foreigners who have had alcohol without the license that they do not really make an effort to let you know you need.
