Australia is still very much downplaying the outbreak.

Something interesting that has come out in the news recently is Monsanto's recent 1.5 million dollar cash infusion given to
TEKMIRA Pharmaceuticals, as investment towards an Ebola treatment drug.
Most are seeing this as questionable that Monsanto just happened to be giving a cash infusion to a key pharma company working on an Ebola cure right in the middle of a highly-publicized Ebola outbreak which could create huge market demand for the drugs.

A Fort Worth doctor battling Ebola passed up the chance to get an experimental serum so his sick colleague could receive it instead, according to his aid organization.

So is this the first glimpse of a remote chance that there may be a cure or treatment of some sort?

Strange how this somehow resembles an episode of Millennium, where Frank Black (Lance Henriksen) is given the only available serum for a similar hemorrhagic fever type disease.

I guess it will be all eyes on the nurse and how effective the serum is.

It seems as if they are now transporting an infected Ebola patient to the United States for treatment at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. They are not saying who it is but it is believed to be Nancy Writebol, the missionary nurse from Charlotte, NC.

I understand this is an excellent facility and they are taking many precautions but this really makes me nervous.

The Ebola patients will be in high security medical isolation. On the other hand, rabies seems to be fairly rampant in Atlanta these days. And by all accounts, rabies is just a tad worse than Ebola. ....Seeing as it's a bit worse, and actually running free in Atlanta, overall rabies is the clear and present danger in Atlanta, not Ebola.

On the other hand, Ebola is kicking the poop out of West Africa - and they need help.

Rabies is a viral disease that causes acute inflammation of the brain in humans and other warm-blooded animals.[1] The time period between contracting the disease and the start of symptoms is usually one to three months; however it can vary from less than one week to more than one year.[1] The time is dependent on the distance the virus must travel to reach the central nervous system.[2] Early symptoms may include fever and tingling at the site of exposure.[1] This is then followed by either violent movements, uncontrolled excitement, and fear of water or an inability to move parts of the body and confusion followed by loss of consciousness.[1] In both cases once symptoms appear it nearly always results in death.[1]
