One is Nearer God's Heart...

...where??

I can say what I think, but I'd rather hear what you all have to say.

One is Nearer God's Heart (that would be grand)......WHERE?

Welcome to all comers. I want to explore this idea of being close to God's Heart.
Anyone??

Where is God? In your heart of course. "God", "source", "higher power" or whatever you want to call it is very close to us and always has been, only most have been blinded to God's true nature.

S&F, let's see where this goes.

It seems you would have an easier time with the whole poem to provide context.

The poet is likening the garden to the Garden of Eden.

...where??
Is this a good place to drag out my favorite picture, me at the Shroud of Turin?

Anyway, kind of a weird picture because I was holding the skateboard that I rode over to the cathedral on, from my hotel.

Is it like a proverb or something?

Sounds to me like is just the usual religous...
oneness makes you closer to god type thing

I KNOW the poem. I am wearing a shirt with it on the front at this very moment.

The kiss of the sun for pardon,
The song of the birds for mirth,
One is nearer God's Heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth.

You know, it's really a shame that on sight you decide to troll and dis me, ketsuko.

I'm not religious at all, and not a Christian. A Deist, if anything.

When I'm out in my garden, I feel connected to everything (which, of course, we are). We are connected to everything. Each other, and all animals and plants, the seas, the skies, the sun, the moon. It's all one.

A garden is a place in which we can get very close.....
to "God". The creator.

I wasn't. I'd never heard it, so I went looking. If you are going to ask people what they think, full context helps.

In this case, the poet says she feels closes to God in a garden indicating that different people find Him in different places at different times, and that is pretty consistent with what almost everyone on this board says - you find God in your own way.

Perhaps I was hoping to hear what other people's "nearer" would be.

I left out the context deliberately.

Where do you feel nearest to God's heart?
