My question is why do you suppose the US government is doing this? Is it all just a response to 9-11 or is it that they are expecting a societal meltdown? One must consider that the US government has access to the top research departments throughout the nation and many of these experts are in the field of social psychology. If the US expects a collapse in the economic area is this all in anticipation of a "Walking Dead" scenario except the zombies will be the hordes of people without access to food or supplies who live in our cities?

So what are your opinions?

America is being allowed to stagnate for the purposes of war.
Doesn't make sense to spend money on something that ultimately will be sacrificed.

It is quite obvious they are preparing for the US to melt down into a third world nation! The FED designed it to happen by loaning us money that they print out based upon "NOTHING"! They print the money at cost, then loan it to countries that end up doing nothing more than paying interest on the loans, "IF" they are lucky!

In the meantime, the multinational corporations, get huge tax breaks, which in turn fall upon the small corporations and small business owners to take up the slack. Keep in mind, that is JUST to contribute to paying off the interest on the fake money the FED loaned out!

Here is an article from 2011, in which the Pentagon and CIA admit to using computer to predict civil unrest in Egypt. Why they needed to spend millions to predict something they created is beyond me, but at least it gives a time line where they admit to predicting civil unrest.

It’s the latest episode in Washington’s four-decade dalliance with future-spotting programs. But if any of these algorithms saw the upheaval in Egypt coming, the spooks and the generals are keeping the predictions very quiet.

Instead, the head of the CIA is getting hauled in front of Congress, making calls about Egypt’s future based on what he read in the press, and getting proven wrong hours later. Meanwhile, an array of Pentagon-backed social scientists, software engineers and computer modelers are working to assemble forecasting tools that are able to reliably pick up on geopolitical trends worldwide. It remains a distant goal.

Seems to me a whole lot of money is being spent on not only internet technology to lock it down and fully control it, but also on technology that manipulates and controls the population!

And that is what is worrisome. We are currently antagonizing Russia and I cannot believe the USA is led by people who are so idiotic as to not know what might wind up happening. One wonders if they feel a limited nuclear war might not ruin too much of the planet but might be the perfect justification for permanent suspension of civil liberties in the USA.
