I have posted DOOM dates on my calendar's for years and not one has come to pass so I think your safe with your having to apologize...lets hope you don't.

That being said, why is it do you think that nothing like this has ever happened ? These types of people have access to explosives, they say there all over America waiting to do just this sort of thing, they continually run there mouth with threats yet nothing like this has ever happened. Just a thought.

What I always question is....

Why do people make predictions like the one's you listed?

Do they really believe?
Attention seeking?
fear mongering?
A deeper and more sinister agenda?

all of the above.

Most of the time, I think it's "none of the above".

When somebody talks about their predictions, they link to their website (as FlyersFan has done) and they generate web traffic. Coming up with a simple prediction out of your butt and posting it on your website has got to be one of the easiest ways of getting free traffic that I can think of.

It's a win/win. FlyersFan gets to post it, we get to have fun reading it, and the people who made it up (and ATS, if the thread gets interest) generate revenue.

And, of course, there are people who legitimately believe in their own predictions and there are even some very talented people who give insight but I am talking only about the repeat BSers.

Makes perfect sense!

You just gave me an idea....

I wonder if any of this was going on before 9/11/2001.

I would say that this behavior might be related to te psychological damage incurred on and after 9/11. I know personaly for about 3-4 years I was scanning radio stations and news channels in anticipation of the next attack.

Everything changed after 9/11, anyone worst nightmare was possible. The images of 9/11 and the feeling of survivals guilt made me want to search for any signs of another attack and warn people.

The problem is we become like the boy who cried wolf.

I can't vouch for others, perhaps for attention, perhaps to appease their guilt like me.

Believe it or not ATS has helped me cope with my guilt as I began to see others like me reaching to conclusions that just aren't there.

I see most events through a very symbolic mind set. It's tough for me but I'm learning to be more objective and realistic about what I see. But again the tragedy witnessed on 9/11 was only just make believe the day before.

Absolutely. I know that in Catholic circles there were lots of doom and gloom predictions .. people claiming to hear Jesus or Mary speak to them and tell them that Jesus would return before 2000 ... that there were huge wars and all sorts of things going to happen. That was 25 years ago. None of it did happen.

It was absolutely going on prior to 911. People have been predicting doom my entire life, and I was born in 69. There was a massive interest in "prepping" during the late 70's and early 80's. Trust me when I say we had to go through, and throw out all of my father-in-laws junk after he died in the mid 90's, and he had been prepping for 30 years based on the book, "Government By Emergency."

The world was supposed to end in 79, 81, 84, 85 and 87. There were comet scares and rapture believers run-amok. None of this is new, and none of it is real.

All judgement days are personal days. Eventually, we all get ours, but its not something you can prep for. But do what you like. 911 changed nothing for the vast majority of us, except now we know for sure just how rotten, corrupt and inept our own Government actually is when responding to a crisis.

Same as it ever was.

But 9/11 did happen.

I agree that end of the world doom and gloom have been around a long while.

I'm not talking about end of the world, 9/11 was a single event, many a doom porn these day seem to reference specific events.

My point with my question was,
the possibilities of what was talked about and feared prior to 9/11 did actually happen. (Regardless of who was responsible) On that day for many people imaginable fear became a reality. In my opinion That set the stage for more of the doom porn we currently see.

Exactly people were prepping and prepping but nothing ever happened.......Until 9/11, when something did happen. it was not the end of the world, but It did introduce our country to a new level of fear.

Thus an increase in doom porn interests, in my opinion.

Same as it ever was?
9/11 may not have change anything for you. But it sure did for me. I don't covet such a sterile perspective.

Yes, you'd think that terrorists would hit shopping malls in December during the high volume shopping months and not early October when everyone is in school and outside still enjoying the nice weather. But no .. according to this Dr. Garrow ... who has 'put his reputation on the line' .... it'll be Oct 4 & 5. I guess the silly terrorists don't know when they should be hitting us!

Actually, attacking numerous shopping malls in early October is an ideal time to affect holiday shopping. If it were to happen, and I do not believe it will, it would put a big damper on the 2014 holiday shopping plans. Rather than going to the physical stores, people would choose to shop online. There is nothing wrong with this, but all of the smaller shops that still do not have a significant online retail presence would be seriously affected. The end result could be the closing of many of these retail locations due to lack of foot traffic.

This could further escalate to reduced money being exchanged at the local level and adversely affecting smaller local economies. Larger online retailers would be thriving, but smaller ma and pa establishments may not survive. This is just a possible outcome to accomplishing the attacks earlier in the season rather than waiting until December.

After having said all that, I don't think it will happen, but we will have to see.

Yes, terrorism is more about scaring people than it is about strategic damage.

Think about it - if terrorists ever did smuggle a nuke into the US, where would they use it? They'd like take it to one of our more highly visible and iconic cities, meaning one on the coast ... maybe Chicago or St. Louis with its Arch, but not one with highly strategic value. If they were thinking, they'd hit a place like Omaha or Kansas City where all of the country's railroads have to go, or they'd take out a pivotal port. Something that would otherwise gun up the logistical works for a long time.

It's bexcuse the terror threat is not anywhere near the level of danger and concern that they would have you believe.

Muslim terrorists know that if they strike in the heart of America, especially after 9/11... mosques, Muslims and Arabs will never get a moment of peace. Remember what we did to the Japanese during WW2.

There is a danger, but they are biding their time perhaps until they can do something serious. But they are not organized enough to do anything like that without the help of some alphabet agency so you can bet that if it does happen it's an inside job, false flag, etc... And there are still "good" guys out there who keep tabs on terror suspects, infiltrate mosques deep umdercover, etc, and the Islamic extremists know this, which is one of the reasons they cannot organize properly to carry out something on a large scale.

If they can't strike hard enough, it won't be worth it because they will waste their chance and... WW2 Japanese internment camps all over again, except with Arabs and Muslims. And if the government doesn't do something, vigilante "justice" will ensue, like after 9/11 but worse.

Back then, when I was still in contact with some undesirable elements, I knew people who knew people who personally committed random acts of violence against random innocent Arabs. I was just as disgusted as I was about the invasion of Iraq, but patriotic mania was at such a high level of insanity, that speaking out for what was right was enough to be beat down. Eventually I did speak out, and my so called friends did beat me up and down and kicked me when I was on the ground calling me "terrorist" and "traitor" in a drunken rage.

I think the terrorists don't want their fellow Muslims to be harmed and all their cells to be in disarray and rendered useless, unless they can really make it worth it.

I don't know I could be wrong about a lot of things but hopefully it at least gives you something to think about as far as possible answers to your question.

*shrug*

I wasn't any more or less afraid. Pissed off? Certainly. But then we went and made the whole thing an excuse to bomb (er, "shock and awe!) a civilian population and kill -- directly or indirectly -- hundreds of thousands of people. I was definitely not afraid after that. Ashamed, certainly. Horrified? Absolutely.

Anyway -- the blinders had to come off sometime. I'm just glad mine fell away when they did. I live my life unaffected by media. I don't worry about imaginary things that don't matter.

One thing I am thankful for: that 911 happened after my father-in-law died. It would have fed an already dangerously delusional paranoia. In his last years, he was on oxygen, yet spent on prepping like he was going to surf WW3. Imagine a big, tough, gun-toting prepper on oxygen and BP drugs? Dead within hours of anything major, and armed well enough to take his whole family with him. *shivers*

You are free to find my perspective sterile if you like. I certainly felt for the 3000+ who died in the attacks. I felt for the survivors too, and thought they all deserved justice. What we got instead was a run up to the NSA surveillance state mentality we now enjoy, security screeners checking grandpa's shoes and more than a decade of interventionist military rah rah rah, followed -- predictably enough as I saw with my own father after Vietnam -- a total disregard for our soldiers, once they are home.

Small wonder some of us look at the concept of terrorism with a skewed eye.

Yep ... same here. I don't pay much attention to doom porn ... short the entertainment value.

You never know what you're going to 'pick up' from ATS. You'll find some damn smart people when you start paying serious attention.

I don't believe this, however October 2014 is still a month to be watched more carefully than other months, if an "event" happens that month I would not be surprised at all.

That's why God invented online shopping and gift cards.

Seriously .. unless you've got little kids and you need to go to a ToysRus or something for stocking stuffers ... online shopping is easier and it's quicker and there are less holiday germs and grumpy people to deal with.

I'm the opposite...I'll shop on the internet, but I won't buy....typing in your bank card numbers, or any other type of monied account numbers, leaves you open to simple "keystroke copier" software

Why do people want destruction? This constant prediction shows that mind state. Funny how good is almost never predicted. More proof it is all fake.

Steve Quayle is a joke. I've contacted him via email to 100% disprove a photo he had on his site (a silhouette of a supposed giant creature).. which was actually a photoshop of a cellphone ad from an Asian country of a man carrying his entire family on his back. He was on Coast to coast talking about it.. that's how I initially heard about his new photo claims.

But of course, he made no mention of his MISTAKE and did not even reply to my email. He simply never mentioned it again.

(This was a while back... maybe 2 years ago. But I'll never forget it.)

An absolute joke.
