Another botched execution. Another example of why I am against the death penalty except for extreme cases in which it is necessary for the safety of
inmates and prison staff. The Governor of Arizona stated that he died according to the law but has also ordered an investigation.
Arizona governor orders review of execution
after inmate takes 2 hours to die
Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer ordered a review of the state's execution process after a convicted double murderer gasped and snorted for more than an
hour and a half before his death Wednesday.
Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne's office said Joseph Rudolph Wood was pronounced dead at 3:49 p.m. local time, one hour and 57 minutes after the
execution started. ..
One thing is certain, however," Brewer's statement continued, "Wood died in a lawful manner and by eyewitness and medical accounts he did not suffer.
This is in stark comparison to the gruesome, vicious suffering that he inflicted on his two victims - and the lifetime of suffering he has caused
An Associated Press reporter who witnessed the execution saw Wood start gasping shortly after a sedative and a pain killer were injected into his
veins. He gasped more than 600 times over the next hour and 40 minutes.
This man was a bad man. No doubt about it. He was guilty of multiple assaults and double murder. And many will say that if he wanted to have a nice
peaceful death then he shouldn't have been so evil in life and he shouldn't have committed the murders. I agree he brought the possibility of a
botched execution upon himself. But when he is put to death, it shouldn't have taken two hours and he shouldn't have been gasping and snorting for
two hours like that. This is another botched execution.
