Intersting picture, the wood does look out of place and if you run the picture through a few filters it comes out as the dominant object

Looking at the tracks in the dirt left behind by the rover it sure looks like the rover ran over the object in question.
Not sure but I dont think this is the first time NASA has ran over a "interesting" object.

wouldn't there be no way for wood to be on the moon as wood is made from trees and there are no lumber mills let alone trees on the moon

Uh a very old thread.
Could it be that this 'wood' is a from the rover by driving over flipped upside down light wightened mars stone plate? The empty and different
'sand in front of the 'wood' could be an indication for this. Thought I don't know if that rover has the power to do that by simple driving over
that.

Well that may or may not be true, but we are talking Mars here, not the Moon...

Am i really the only one who believes that NASA would photoshop its own images? You think NASA would disclose 100% of its findings?

btw what the shiny thing in the background, sticking up from the sand? another rock?
Ya I noticed the shinny thing in the background as more interesting than the "piece of wood" ... Looks like a camp fire, or some sort of fire to
me...

Well this thread finally died this past March without any final explanation. This is a picture on every ATS competitor and had stirred enough
controversy to warrant a full briefing on the issue.
Of course now it's old news, but still, it's a fascinating pic. Was there ever any closure on this one??
I'm sleepy.. OUT!

This beam of wood looks like worn sedimentary rock to me. It looks as if the top layer was worn away by erosion or such.
