Russian Government Updating Wikipedia Entry For MH17

Not too subtle revision by the Russians. They have to be aware that people watch for this... right?

NY Daily News - Russian government caught changing Wikipedia entry on Malaysia Airlines Flight 17: report

A Twitter bot that keeps watch on Wikipedia pages edited by Moscow spotted major changes to an entry about the crash.
A Russian language page originally said that the plane was "shot down by terrorists of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic.”

This was subsequently changed to was "shot down by Ukrainian soldiers."
The edit was discovered by an automated Twitter account @RUGoveEdits, which keeps an eye on changes to Wikipedia made by the Russian government, reports The Telegraph.

Apparently, politicians the world over are just about as incompetent as we'd all imagined.

Side Note: There's also a Wikipedia entry for U.S. Congressional Staff Edits.

Similar to @RuGovEdits (NY Daily News source has a typo), there is @CongressEdits Twitter bot that tweets changes made from IP addresses associated with Congress.

Do the Bots also change the info back to the original?

I don't believe so though it would of course be possible and some bots are approved for updates. More information about Wikipedia bots here.

Yeah but wiki can be written by Mickey mouse and some people will still swear by its content.

Anyway how on earth does Wikipedia know who shot the plane down? As far as I know it's still undetermined.

Strictly speaking, the russian editorial is correct.

Is a political propaganda, and incorrect. Doesn't matter what they call themselves, they are "ukrainian soldiers", no matter which side of the civil war they belong. Labeling them "terrorists", is a political adjective that is siding with "who" is "who". In this case, the people of Donetsk do not have the right to self-determination. For some reason, because they are russian they are to be denied to have their own state.

That's the very definition of "political propaganda", and should not be allowed on Wikipedia. Therefore the Russian edit, is "more" correct, although another term should be created.

Secondly, facts like "Kiev has these missiles" and "rebels don't", doesn't seem to score much. All in all, if the US yiells very loud nobody hears anything else ... that's bullying, and not arguments. Just because the US sides with Kiev, and decided everybody else doesn't have the right of self-determination, does not mean they are automatically right. They weren't right about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, they weren't right about Iraq at all ... and neither were they right about Afghanistan. And everywhere they are they cause more damage, than they fix. Like ISIS ... ISIS was born, because of the US meddling in the middle east. Same applied to Khomeini.

The US, isn't even asking the question "Who let the plane deviate from it's course". Nor are they asking "why is a commercial aircraft allowed to fly over a no fly zone, especially one in a warzone".

The US is simply stating whatever it feels, for the purpose of getting it's political values.

BUT ANYTHING THE US AND IT'S ALLIES HAVE DONE FOR PATH 50 YEARS, HAVE BEEN IN VAIN AND HAVE BROUGHT NOTHING BUT DEATH AND DESTRUCTION AROUND THE WORLD.

This is not new to them, they have always beautified the "records" to their liking.

Was just "forgotten" from russian Wikipedia.. Kaleva was a ordinary passenger plane.

Spoofing IP addresses is quite an easy thing to do. And Russian IPs are a favorite for obvious reasons.

Yet what the new york daily times forget mention is that anyone can change wikipedia from anywhere. I can change a few things about the 9/11 entry on Wikipedia whenever i feel.

Actually, the US started to top Russian with Operation Paperclip in 1945....
Maybe you need to go back further in history and start your knowledge base again.

And Operation Paperclip led to Project MKUltra. And who was in MKUltra...yup, Osama bin Laden! Just a little secret that proud Americans who have researched know. Good luck finding a reliable source confirming he was part of MKUltra because it looks like in the past couple of years the US has 'scrubbed' bin Laden from any MKUltra connection on the internet.
