Ok, I know it's Ramadan and most pictures I see are the people praying. But what is the meaning of putting the Quran on one's head? Both men and women. I first noticed the women doing this a few days ago, no it's the men. Just curious....and sorry if it seems I'm deserting the post, but it's dinner time and internet access is hard to come by for me lately.

Peace

Are they expressing the idea that they want to absorb it through their minds?

OT parallel; Deuteronomy tells the Israelites to keep God's Law between the eyes and on the backs of their hands, but this is not meant literally. It is about keeping it at the forefront of their minds.

Maybe it was raining?

I'm not joking. I worked in 2 Arab countries, and have never seen this before.
Also asked a Lebanese neighbor, and he's never seen this either.

To my knowledge, I have never seen this before.

I definitely do not think this is mainstream islam and may be an innovation.. as I have never witnessed this act among the many muslims I have met throughout various places.

Strange indeed.

Rain? lol Geeesh....I fisrt noticed it last week with the women doing it. Now, all the men.
If it doesn't rain in town tonight I'll be able to ask a friend who should definitely know the meaning.

Seems like nobody really knows. Best answer I've found from a friend in Iraq....

"it is may be respecting the holy Qura'an"

"and also may be for blessing by the holy quraan (the speech of God "Allah" )"

Thanks!

I missed your post last month just after my friend. I did Google it and found nothing.
I finally was able to ask my friend and he got upset and blew me off. Now I know why.
