The Soviets shot down a 747 with 269 on board, including a US congressperson. Before that they shot down a 707 with 109 on board (107 survived that one).

The US shot down an Irainian A300, with 290 on board.

Yes. That was then.

This is now.

Now is a lot different than then was.

Now it seems everyone (governments) have itchy trigger fingers.....

Just an observation.

That is a good question and something I was wondering as well.
Do they both have the same military hardware?

It would make it less likely. It's still possible that they were tracking another aircraft near it, that was a cargo plane, and got the two confused, or something along those lines, but accident is less likely.

I believe we found MH-370. Just wild speculation, but that's the first thing came to mind when I saw they were both 777 from the same airline.

First thing that went through my head.

Russia and the BRICS launch their new central bank on Tuesday, unilateral sanctions from the US on Wednesday, and now we're going to be fed the line that the Russians have brought down a 777.

I must say i'm very nervous to see how this develops.

God bless those on board and their families and God help us All.

Like the world bank lady said....7's are a magical number. lots of 7's involved in this.

Boeing 777, Flight MH17 and today is the 17th of July (7)

ETA: 2014 (another 7)

I find it hard to believe that in 2014 they mistake a passenger liner squawking commercial IFF flying in a civilian flight path

This was absolutely careless, or it was intentional

My condolences to the families.

But I have a feeling since this wasn't a Muslim terrorist group that enjoys taking credit for civilian engagements, then everyone is going to play stupid, on this event.

And the media will booster TPTB's agenda whatever that may be.

I am watching CNN, and they just said that it was very likely that it was shot down by Russian missiles.

Say it ain't so!
I'm really suprised they said that.

And to think ?

Had Putin not wanted to 'restore' the great Red Bear 295 Maylasians would be alive today.

Just saying.

Thoughts, and prayers go out to the families of Maylasian 777.

I find a lot of things incredibly hard to believe, but there were people involved in this. That means that screw ups happen. Especially if they're not well trained, which both Russian conscripts, and Ukrainian rebels fall under.

That is why I said I will just wait and see what kind of evidence pops up.

Do you have anything to back up that statement? No, then you can kindly close your mouth. You have no facts yet. The western MSM will play this game for ya buddy, it is not your job to create their propaganda for them.

The same thing that a few hundred other planes in the last few days have been doing. Travelling to their destination.

Commercial flights have been operating over the region on a daily basis, in fairly large numbers since this started, with no problems. There was no reason to think this flight would have been any different.

That's what I mean. I know it happens regularly....still seems like poor decision making though.

Considering that the deciding factor is monetary in nature, of course they would elect for the shortest, fuel-saving route. Damn the SAMs...
