I'm still working on finding a dot gov source that pertains more specifically to the government hiring paid agents to post on forums. It won't
be worded that way, of course, but it's up to us to interpret
Well, not a given. Specifically why would this occur and what do you think the goal would be? To discredit someone? It just seems like there would
be a lot better ways of accomplishing this. Posting to a forum where you are limited to what you can say doesn't seem to effective. Forums are
technology based. The gov't would probably just find out where you lived, put acid in your coffee and child porn on your computer and then call the
police and local paper.
Planting a story that there are "paid agents" on forums might be the low tech way to disrupt things. Who knows who is who and who to trust.
Looking for an example, I searched infowars.com with the search term “government admits they pay agents on social media.”
That brought up a story “Social Security Administration Now Hiring for Counterintelligence Operations.”
You have to understand how search engines work. "Social" media matched "Social" security. "Agents" matched "Counterintelligence". "Pay" matched
"hiring". So it hit some words that were similar in meaning but the gist of your result was different.
