President Bush has nominated Bernard Kerik as the new Department of Homeland Security Secretary. Kerik's name has topped the list of potential replacements for Tom Ridge in recent days. Mr. Kerik is the former NYC Police Commissioner and was Senior Policy Advisor to the Iraq Interior Minister in 2003.

President Bush has picked former New York City police commissioner Bernard Kerik as his homeland security secretary and an announcement is expected as early as Friday, Republican officials said on Thursday.

Kerik gained national attention during the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in New York City and has been a strong Bush supporter.

Two Republican officials said Bush had chosen Kerik to replace Tom Ridge as head of U.S. homeland security.

Some of the worry speculation is that although he has the knowledge, he might lack some much needed skills in Washington DC when it comes to the intense politics that comes with the position.

When Kerik was tapped to the Department of Corrections as the director of investigations, the New York Times reported one official as saying "Congratulations. You've just hired Rambo." This may be a very apt statement. Kerik's reputation and record show he is certainly a warrior type persona, but how will such a person fare in the bureaucracy of Washington, DC? Some say that all the intense politics will weight him down so much, that he will be unable to do his job as he needs to or is used to. Others state that he is just the tough no-nonsense type the nation needs to take the post.

Once he actually takes office, only time will tell.

WASHINGTON - President Bush will nominate former New York Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik to succeed Tom Ridge as secretary of homeland security, NBC News reported Thursday.

Ridge, the nations first homeland security secretary, announced Tuesday that he was resigning after three years of reworking U.S. security and presiding over color-coded terror alerts. Keriks nomination could be announced as early as Friday, NBCs Pete Williams reported.

Kerik's nomination may be the first of many nominations for the "heroes" of 9-11. Even though Gulliani has recently said he is going into private business, we may well see him named for a cabinet position within the Bush administration.

Kerik has also been involved in training Iraqi police in Baghdad.

Dammit Banshee...
I was working this one up, and thought to check and see if anyone posted it yet before I hit submit. Good thing I did.
