Israel has accepted Egypt’s proposal for a cessation of hostilities with the Gaza Strip, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office announced on Tuesday morning.

The proposal envisioned a cease-fire beginning at 9 a.m. local time on Tuesday. It called for border crossings to Gaza to “be opened,” with the movement of people and goods to be “facilitated once the security situation becomes stable on the ground.” Within 48 hours of the initial cease-fire taking hold, talks are to be held in Cairo with the Israelis and the Palestinian militant factions on conditions for a longer-term truce, according to the text of the proposal.

It will be interesting to see what comes of this though, as Hamas has stated that they will not simply bow to a truce.

The armed wing of Palestinian Islamist group Hamas on Tuesday rejected the reported text of an Egyptian ceasefire proposal made on Monday, according to its official website.

The al-Qassam Brigades said it had not officially received the exact text of the ceasefire treaty but said that media reports exposed that it was “an initiative of kneeling and submission.”

“Our battle with the enemy continues and will increase in ferocity and intensity,” it added.

It will be interesting to see what comes of this though, as Hamas has stated that they will not simply bow to a truce.

So, what does that mean? More collateral damage is required ... not enough women and children have been blown to bits to warrant consideration of peace?

Israel has pretty much agreed to stop. Anyone ever hear of a terrorist who simply said, "Okay, you've had enough. I'll leave you alone now." ??

Is anyone's opinion of the situation turning? Anyone still think firing rockets at Tel Aviv was ever going to solve any problem whatsoever? I mean, Occupy Wall Street didn't involve destructive firepower. The Tea Party didn't instigate an armed revolt. The militia folk out at the Bundy Ranch didn't slaughter the BLM thugs, did they?

I can see that neither of the belligerents is ever going to give up. One day, Israel is going to get serious and drive Hamas straight into the Mediterranean Sea. Crying uncle will probably be too late at the eleventh hour and there will be no blame for the Israelis in my heart.

Sadly, this has been the modus operandi of terrorists in the region for years. Hamas has simply adopted the methodology of it's predecessors (The PLO). They are content to launch attacks from civilian areas because they know that with each civilian death caused by Israeli retaliation, they create new martyrs for their cause. They are sick enough in the head to consider it an investment in their cause, because each child that will grow up without his mother or father will take up arms against Israel for revenge.

They have NEVER had a problem with using civilians as human shields, and their ilk have done so not just against Israeli forces but against NATO forces in Afghanistan and American forces in Iraq. They want to complain to the world about an unfair fight while waging their attacks from mosques and civilian neighborhoods, when they clearly know what the outcome will be. They've used these tactics for decades, and it works horribly well because it plays on the religious idiosyncrasies of the local populations. The more martyrs they have, the more fighters for the future.

Which is why if Hamas agree to a truce it will only be temporary. Allowing time to lick wounds and replenish munitions.

Without conflict, anti-Semitism, hatred and mayhem Hamas are irrelevant. It is therefore in their interests to keep fighting, which is why since 2001 there has been no pause in the steady flow of rockets fired into Israel. One day, Hamas will hit a really prime target - say a kindergarten, or a Synagogue - because this will force an Israeli response and the wheel makes another turn.

The only way to stop this is to kill off Hamas. The only way to kill off Hamas is for those Muslim nations who provide funds to stop doing so. These nations include Iran, Syria (although probably not at the moment) and a couple of other Gulf States who like to keep the Jews firmly vilified and embattled. These nations are complicit and use the Palestinians as their play things.

Regards

Israel accepts a truce but Hamas wants more violence and you expose the fact you support more Hamas violence against Israel.

Actually both the Egyptian and Jordanian-Israeli treaties have been nothing but honoured by Israel.

You have no basis in fact to argue this convention, also you're confusing truces with treaties.

The Islamic concept of truce, Hudna, isn't a truce as westerners know it but an excuse for Hamas to do exactly what you incorrectly accuse Israel of eg rearm until it suits them to attack again.

Hudna (هدنة) is an Arabic term meaning a temporary "truce" or "armistice" as well as "calm" or "quiet", coming from a verbal root meaning "calm". It is sometimes mis-translated as "cease-fire". In the Lisan al-Arab (Ibn al-Manzur's definitive dictionary of classical Arabic, dating to the 14th century) it is defined as follows:[citation needed] "hadana: he grew quiet. hadina: he quieted (transitive or intransitive). haadana: he made peace with. The noun from each of these is hudna."

-Note temporary.

If it was a prediction ... DAAS was spot-on.

Hamas rejected the offer to end hostilities with another barrage of rocket fire. And, of course, Israel said it will escalate its armed response.

They say that two wrongs don't make a right. I say you'll never make a right ... as long as one side always starts off with a wrong.

Hardly - I'm sure Israel has plenty of ordinance left. If a truce came through and held for a while, Hamas would just use that time to build/smuggle in more missiles and recruit more members to replace the ones killed. This is what happened after the big conflict in 2008-2009... After living in the area for several years, I've noticed something - When Hamas is not launching missiles at Israel, Israel leaves Gaza alone... It's weird how that works.

Do you honestly think Israel is just pounding Gaza on a regular basis for fun until they run out of bombs? That is hardly the case.
