Bush was slammed because he refused to declare Katrina a natural disaster despite all the media coverage proving otherwise

I think the then Governor of Louisiana had to ask for Federal assistance.

She failed to act in a timely fashion as I remember (choke and gag)

Her mind must have gone blanko.

here's the FEMA process.....

The initial First Response to a disaster is the job of local government's emergency services with help from nearby municipalities, the state and volunteer agencies. In a catastrophic disaster if the governor requests, federal resources can be mobilized through the U.S.Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for search and rescue, electrical power, food, water, shelter and other basic human needs.

It is the long-term Recovery phase of disaster which places the most severe financial strain on local or state government. Damage to public facilities and infrastructure, often not insured, can overwhelm even a large city.

A governor's request for a major disaster declaration could mean an infusion of federal funds, but the governor must also commit significant state funds and resources for recovery efforts.

A Major Disaster can be a result of hurricanes, earthquakes, flood, tornados or major fires; the President then determines warrants supplemental federal aid. The event must be clearly more than state or local governments can handle alone. If declared, funding comes from the President's Disaster Relief Fund, managed by FEMA and disaster aid programs of other participating federal agencies.

The Disaster Process & Disaster Aid Programs

Hmmm.

Symantics...symantics!

Obama declared Hurricane Sandy a natural disaster before ANYONE asked for assistance. Bush with Katrina? Not so much!

So, lets stop with the "People demanded that Bush go" B.S. It's not nearly the same thing.

Call it what you wish, but this in not Obama's "Katrina". PERIOD. End of story.

Obama has been on top of this from the word go....no need for him to visit (fly over) the border to convince him that this is a genuine crisis...he has dealt with it to the the furthest extent of his constitutional powers....talk to Congress If you want action...they are holding things up.

Yeah, it's a photo op.

If he was really "playing pool" do you think he would want to be blinded by a Flash while trying to make his shot?

(if there was no Flash, the camera man would have to do a long(er) exposure to get the shot (in a dimly lit bar), that would mean Obama would have to stand still for the shot)

Either way, it is still a photo op.

We forget that life is not easy.

Life isn't easy - and I think I would make that my point. We use that often enough as an excuse to do nothing

We can't afford to take care of the world, but we can afford to do some things right. We can do many things better. We absolutely should do some things differently - we all know that

Life isn't easy...there's a situation going on down there that is largely ignored because it isn't happening in the middle east and doesn't involve our arch enemies. But - here they are anyway. Most people don't seem to understand why or how. Many don't care - anything coming up from south of the border is mostly unwelcome - if not despised

Life isn't easy - we live in difficult times...

Many countries are being flooded right now by refugees - or people who had the means and foresight to try and emigrate

Why are the Republicans stalling on immigration reform? Can they stall for two more years do you think? :-) I'll bet they can. They are going to pay for it though - through the nose

I wish for once we'd just all agree to do the right thing - not the strategically useful political thing

But, I'm an idiot (apparently) - with an unrealistic imagination and annoying affection for humanity. Life isn't easy

And, yeah - if we get far enough down the road to get a real good look back, history is going to show exactly how this was not one of the better times to be president

uh....who cares if he goes to the actual border or not?.

Because that is his JOB.

Since the Potus can't be bothered to go there.

Not much of a 'crisis'.

why don't all you right-wingers grab a gun, and go to the border, that way you can carry out your second-amendment rights, shooting anything that crosses over, that's what all of you really , down deep, want to do.

Nice political trolling there.

c'mon....the republicans b*tched about him having photo ops when he went to new jersey to see the devastation that sandy did to the neighborhoods, now they are b*tching about him not being seen going to the border, where there would be photo ops......it proves it doesn't matter what he does...it's always wrong in your eyes......so ...why does anyone listen to you anymore?....the stock answer is ALWAYS, ALWAYS going to be that Obama is wrong....the media can just dial it in, and save everybody a lot of time.

in fact, we should adopt that here on ATS...whenever Obama does anything, even things thought up by republicans, we all know the it will now be wrong according to republicans...so...in the future, maybe threads can be titled this way...OBAMA ON TAXES, STOCK ANSWER...OBAMA ON JOBS, STOCK ANSWER...OBAMA ON FOREIGN POLICY, STOCK ANSWER...

SO Dem comments so far.....Blame Bush......Obama can't do anything right according to GOP.....

Why don't you guys just put that on an old school answering machine so you don't have to keep stating the same thing OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER....

I don't care what party you're affiliated with, Obama is NOT DOING HIS JOB, close the border and enforce the laws as they are on the books. IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE LAWS WORK TO CHANGE THEM, but because you don't like them is NO EXCUSE TO IGNORE THEM.
