UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Insurgents in Iraq have seized nuclear materials used for scientific research at a university in the country's north, Iraq told the United Nations in a letter appealing for help to "stave off the threat of their use by terrorists in Iraq or abroad." Nearly 40 kilograms (88 pounds) of uranium compounds were kept at Mosul University, Iraq's U.N. Ambassador Mohamed Ali Alhakim told U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in the July 8 letter obtained by Reuters on Wednesday. "Terrorist groups have seized control of nuclear material at the sites that came out of the control of the state," Alhakim wrote, adding that such materials "can be used in manufacturing weapons of mass destruction."

Ladies and gentlemen, please put your seats back in their upright position.

I don't even know where to begin.

Terrorists so extreme Al Qaeda gave them the boot now have the potential to make nukes.

The West, namely NATO/US have the perfect reason to go back to Iraq.

What do?

Something stinks of $@!t ...

I thought Iraq had no WMD.......

and I'll say it again why didn't the US destroy them..?
That's why we invaded right ?

Sounds like " someone" is building a case for another invasion....

I'm not a nuclear engineer but the outcome of nuclear components in a bomb would be a nuke. Sure it won't be as fancy as gov't made nukes but the end result is still radioactive explosive death.

Now even with these newly acquired materials it's not going to be easy to make a nuke but they now have some ingredients that they will definitely do their best to use.

I wonder if Israel and Iran will come together to stop this deadly threat?

Nah I don't think so either but both states have much to fear.

It's like some kind of bad joke, most of the kind of stuff being mentioned was actually put in that country by the west

But then there was the time before when Iraq had none, so the west just made it up that they did, so they could blow the crap out of the country

We have fools at the helm of this big, blue, spinning world and it's rather disconcerting

Good thing i moved from the US...its going to happen eventually...and with it will be the last of any ones rights. The terrorists won...just in a different way.

But globally this stuff could be sold and used anywhere...except Japan...what bastard would give that country more radiation.

It's not like the terrorist stole an actual nuke. They raided a university and stole its nuclear compounds.

The chemical weapons on the other hand Iraq was always known to have. The US didn't invade Iraq over chemical weapons cuz if that were the case Syria would have been raided long ago.

Actually in this case ingredients for WMD may be leaving Iraq.

Then WMD's may be entering an nation that's an enemy of ISIS and other Muslim extremists.

In terms of inconvenience to the general public, it's a technicality. With one you have several thousands square miles of land off limits to the population. With another you have a few square miles of land off limits to the population. If your office, your home or you are contaminated, either way it's going to be a real pain.

Sounds like a "big pharma" program. Make a poison to partially kill off a bug, just enough that you get better, but you can still get the bug again or something else later so they can make some more money. A never ending cycle of using people as money "cultures." I think the same thing applies here. Leave enough crap over there that the military/industrial complex and all those private merc firms have to be called back in, to make some more money.

Either that or it's all BS and ISIS don't have anything, it's just talked-up noise bits from talking heads to justify more war and expense. I mean seriously, how can any of us disprove or prove that what Reuters or anyone else says is true when they are all bought and paid for by the PTB?

Cheers - Dave

At this point it seems blatantly obvious that "someone somewhere" is BEGGING for war.

Here's my second line, which I have included in order to follow rules.

If this is true - hell even if it is not, this article is proof enough. TPTB are prepping us for something BIG people. Just my opinion of course, but I think it is pretty obvious they are intent on ISIL as the new bad guy and we all know what that means....

The bad guy will come for us or TBTB will make it appear as if they are coming for us....either way the endgame is the same for the citizens.

All the pieces of the puzzle are coming together if you look for them....these pieces seem to point to a 'terrorist attack' the likes of which the world has never seen before.

Not to doomporn. I am just getting a sinking feeling everyday with each new article...

You're right, they are, but it wasn't chemical weapons alone that led the invasion. Biological & nuclear weapons were the fear. That's why we never found any WMD's, meanwhile the chemical stockpiles were always there.

A U.S. government source familiar with the matter said the materials were not believed to be enriched uranium and therefore would be difficult to use to manufacture into a weapon. Another U.S. official familiar with security matters said he was unaware of this development raising any alarm among U.S. authorities.

a nuclear bomb is a very very tricky machine that requires pretty much clock maker accuracy to cause the fission to begin.

a dirty bomb is a couple unexploded bombs wrapped in farmers dynamite and blasting caps with the uranium broke down and spread around then boom little particles of radioactive material that a nice dose of potassium iodide and i forget the other one but a nice dose of these will help out.. fission on the other hand..

theres Weapons of Mass destruction and then theres WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION

For sure a dirty is in the works & sadly that's the best case scenario as far bomb making goes. When this stuff hits the black market who knows what's possible. How far will Muslim extremists go if they do want to make a nuke? Who will they hire, kidnapped, take control over to get the job done?

So best case scenario is a dirty bomb, worst case a nuke.
