In my opinion, writing laws that allow for the government to burden an individual's religious expression violates the Establishment Clause. Saying that it doesn't, as the ACT does, doesn't make it true.

Frankly I think most of us on this thread (you included) are fairly close in our stance on freedom. We would like as much as possible without it intruding onto another citizen's un-Constitutionally. Also, we would like other freedoms returned to us that an over-reaching Federal Government has taken away in the names of various causes and events to help 'protect' us.

I take my understanding of the competing politic definitions of justice from Thomas Sowell, Ph.D. He wrote a nice little book called The Quest for Cosmic Justice. I highly recommend it. Dr. Sowell started out as a committed leftist progressive like yourself, but the realities of economics, among other things, shaped and changed his opinions over the years. So, he is well-equipped to understand both points of view as he has inhabited them.

I am glad you are laughing out loud but that is typically how people who know how to operate in the professional world go about our business. The OP sounds like the Nazis did when they railed against jews back in the 1930s. Now its Christians that are enemies of the state. And we have more to worry from the left who are more guilty of crimes against society and are getting worse. I think people are beginning to look back towards the right as the lesser of two evils. I can't say that's a pleasant thought, but the left has completely shown themselves to be either idiots or psychopaths.

I don't think they've reached such critical mass yet where such would be very obvious.

their polluting the air . . . with or without the nano-aluminum purported to be in "chemtrails" . . .

their endless wars . . .

their abortion mania

their birth-control mania . . . which I somewhat support where totally voluntary

their homosexual promotion stuff

and some odd other efforts . . . have likely decreased the rate of increase markedly from what it would have otherwise been.

I don't know at what point their genocidal efforts truly begin to look like that to the average person. Surprising numbers of folks in my social network have awakened to such realities the last 5-10 years.

I totally agree with your post. America is starting to become more radical, and I have reason to be very afraid of this blight. As a trans person, I've grown up hearing the story of Brandon Teena, the transman viciously murdered because of his gender. Then you start hearing of other violence and discrimination that goes on to trans people, how we are most likely to be homeless, and more llikely to commit suicide. In my opinion, it comes from two direct sources: the Christian Right and misunderstood conceptions.

In the latter, the victimizers explain their actions because they felt like they were 'tricked', which gave them purpose to enact violence upon the trans person. It can also be the Christian right's fault because with the belief of homosexuality being a sin (and how trans people get lumped with them), the victimizers who adhere to the religion fall back on that excuse to justify their attacks.

Now imagine what happens if the government bends to the CR rule: For the Gay Rights movement as a whole, 50 years of advances and acceptedness will be dashed, the trans, bis, and other sexual/gender minorities, which are quite disenfranchised even now, will be considered abberations that will be targets for hate groups and others. violence against gays will skyrocket, not to mention the mental anguish the closeted or 'converted' will have once they feel the gap widen between their inner and outer selves.

Oh sure, it would be a lovely place for our god-fearing neighbours, but at what cost? I dare them to go to Matt Shepard's, Brandon Teena's, and all of the other families and victims of alternate lifestyle violence, look them in the eye and say that they deserved it because they are sinful abberations of God's creation. I plucking dare them

Jacques Cousteau, a marine biologist when asked how to end human suffering and disease he said that it was a terrible thing to say but the only way to do it was to decrease the population by 350,000 people a day. That was in 1991. Has the world population decreased at all? No? It's grown exponentially? Oh dear. Poor Cousteau must be rolling in his grave.
