What are YOU willing to cede in order to come about a compromise?

What do I need to further cede?
I own guns, and know how to use them.
I recycle, and do what I can to reduce the harm our society poses on the planet.
I don't care what religion people follow in their own homes as long as NO CHILDREN are harmed.
I have no problem with gays, birth control, or pot.
I pay my taxes.
I don't receive (or apply for) welfare.
I shop at thrift stores and avoid buying anything made in slave-labor countries.
I don't over-eat, and I have a clean background.

I make do. I live within my means. I raised two children into productive adults. I worked for 40 years of my life. I vote independent. I keep up with my responsibilities, and don't abuse animals or exploit anyone.

What I "cede" is between me and my husband and children. We make out okay.
But when someone tries to tell me I have to become an Evangelical Christian, NO. I will NOT cede my right to refuse the dogma of others. To them, or ISIS, or anyone else.

I don't receive (or apply for) welfare.

Double yay.

. . . You have a page that posts several quotes from various leader type people from history through present, they are cherry picked quotes taken out of the context of their larger statements or speeches mixed with a bunch of emotive buzzwords strung in idiotic phrases.

NONSENSE.

Most of those quotes are quite consistent with the context they were taken from.

Many of those quotes are starkly and outrageously Draconian and tyrannical

REGARDLESS of whether they are read "in context" or out of context. Too many of them could not be put MORE starkly tyrannical if one tried.

I don't understand trying to soft peddle such tyranny and rationalize it all as "taken out of context."

Most informed, educated, critical thinking readers are not that stupid.

What HAVE you ceded?

I own guns, and know how to use them.

Awesome. Same here.

I recycle, and do what I can to reduce the harm our society poses on the planet.

Good for you.

I don't care what religion people follow in their own homes as long as NO CHILDREN are harmed.

Yeah, we can't have people in public being religious and all icky.

I have no problem with gays, birth control, or pot.

Okay. Bully for you!

I pay my taxes.

So do I.

I don't receive (or apply for) welfare.

Neither do I.

I make do. I live within my means. I raised two children into productive adults. I worked for 40 years of my life. I vote independent.

A wonderful resume. But it still doesn't answer the question.

What values, ethics are you willing to cede in order to enact a compromise?

What do you think happens when the pendulum swings too far to the left? That`s right and you know the left has baited, sued, denigrated and tried to humiliate anyone with a religious view.
Now you reap what you sow!

Enjoy your swing to the right because it's going to be a short lived victory.
Politics is about perception not reality. The right will now be painted as being
anti gay, anti women, anti minorities, and anti freedom.
Moderation is the key in a Democratic Republic; a fact that seems to have been lost
on extremist from both sides.

The left has sown and soon it will be the harvest.Hope you enjoy it.

Yes the pendulum certainly does swing and sowing the seeds of extremism bears a bitter fruit.

So you don't want a true compromise.

You want others to compromise in accord of your values.

Allowing others to be whatever they want to be as long as they keep it OUT of my face. I'm not really in a position to "cede" much, because I don't have much, except my integrity. I have ceded my privacy (apparently, shout out to Snowden), and ceded my ability to board a plane while being ex-rayed, shoeless, and made to strip to my underwear.

I go along with taxation when what I would LIKE to do is refuse to participate.

I feel my values and ethics are sound - I work toward humanist, secular peace. Justice for all citizens of the world. Compassion, understanding, and cultural literacy. I don't mind the immigrants being here. I live in a modest neighborhood and drive a paid-for old car.

May I step down now, your honor?

Then you are no different than any evangelical Christian who won't compromise either.

Hey, I answered your question. I tolerate capitalism because that's what makes this country work. I tolerate taxes.

Look - this thread IS NOT ABOUT ME. It's about people who want control and to END the compromises that we have ALL made.

Where's the love, Beez? Where's the love?

Don't go there.

DON'T bash and label me. I've made plenty of compromises. I will NOT become an Evangelical Christian.

I do not want to be an evangelical anything.

Except maybe an evangelical beer drinker.

I want to proselytize and extoll the virtue of imbibing various forms of brewed beverages since, as the great Henry Lawson once wrote, "Beer makes you feel the way you ought to feel without beer."

HOWEVER . . . the liberal education machine's tyrannical rulers have insured

that

IN PRACTICE, Islamic days; Islamic prayers for the whole class; Islamic lots of things are quite OK and to be propagated. Ditto hostile-to-Christianity witchcraft meetings and familiarization. The playing field with such laws is FAR FROM LEVEL.

Except that no one is asking you to.

But when you say you are working for social justice that means you are asking for all the rest of us to become what you want us to be. Social justice is the idea that all must be made equal by law. That means we must be forced to be equal in whatever way the law deems fit.

There is no opting out of that. There is no way that leaves people be to simply be who they are. If you are a round peg ... and the hole is a triangle ... well too bad for you, you either are made to jam into it or you are discarded, thrown away. And that's not a nice process, either.

I'm sure that you would not want to become an evangelical Christian.

This stems from your post about compromise.

True compromise has to come from either side of an issue.

When one side demands the other to capitulate then it doesn't matter if you are evangelical or a socialist.

It stops being negotiation, and becomes a war instead where the winner gets to dictate to the loser.

1. How many bosses in how many jobs have you told to take a hike, you know how to run it better?

2. How has that worked out for you?

3. Yehoshua the Christ demonstrated that He was who He said He was. Evidently you think THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT is too terrible a set of criteria for living to live under. Tough tacos. It will be the law of the land in at least some key respects.

4. You are welcome to fight with The Boss. I don't recommend it. I've never found it a good survival habit.

5. GOD ALMIGHTY RUNNING HIS MULTIVERSE THE WAY HE CHOOSES is FAR different from a group of mortals manipulating another group of mortals.

It means that we are all treated Equally by the Law. I'm not sure if that's what you mean or not, but I thought I'd check.

Do you not think we should be treated Equally from a Legal standpoint??? Do you think that certain people or groups should be seen as above the law???

But, BO! This is what they are DOING! Trying to implement an Evangelical theocracy!

GOD is not running this country, sorry to say. Mortal people are running it (and the world). Into the ground.

It seems to me that both sides want to get the hypocrites out of power. The Right would want greedy hypocrites out, because they don't share their values. The Left would want them out, because they are criminals.

So why not team up and expose hypocrites? Focus on the solution, not the problem.

That's not a compromise.

That is what you do not want. I know you don't want a theocracy.
I understand you don't want a theocracy.

Get it tattooed on your head.

We get it.

What are you willing to compromise to those who would want a true theocracy?
