My shrinkage isn't the Seinfeld cold water in the pool type of shrinkage.

It has to do with the fact that when we become old in late middle age, we gradually become shorter. I have lost an inch and a half, and there is more shrinkage coming my way in the coming last years of my life.

The thing to note is that when I was young, how tall I was was a big thing to me. Now, I couldn't care less. So let me shrink out of existence. I don't care because that is where I am headed anyway.

The spine erodes in time. Sad but true. Go easy on your bones. Best of wishes.

Count your blessings that you are not a woman. They generally tend to shrink more from osteoporosis. The spine (as skunkape said) tends to fracture. That's why you see a lot of women (mostly) and men walking hunched over with a dowager's hump. The spine has literally started to deteriorate/get softer.

It's one of the symptoms of getting older as you have noticed. Take it and be happy that you aren't in Depends yet.
it can always be worse...

Sleep on a stretcher??
Could that possibly work?
Just wishful thinking maybe.
