Should ATS split in 2?

I have been following ATS for...I don't know how many years. Only been a member for a few, but started way back when. Well, I have noticed a very big problem. ATS has turned into a doom porn site! I remember ghost photos and videos, JFK and D.U.M.B's, Cheyenne Mountain and of course the occasional but more and more frequent "end of days" scenarios.

However, the world has "moved on" and become a much more complex (and dangerous) place to live. World politics and tempers have taken a crap, more fighting due to dwindling resources caused by global climate shifts (not saying warming or cooling, just drastically changing), natural and man made disasters on the rise and you can see it all, minute by minute, right here on ATS. There are days when I am checking the top stories, and I see nothing but depression, and doom, and destruction, and despair, and someone pissed off at Walmart for some reason. People, individual people, are literally self destructing right before our eyes. It's almost enough to make me not visit ATS (notice I said almost) but due to my uncontrollable human condition which makes me want to see/read stuff JUST LIKE IT!

During the depression of the 1930's, escapism was at an all time high. People needed to get away, distract their minds from the fact that life pretty much sucked. So for a little while, a brief moment in an otherwise bleak existence, they could get drunk or check out a *gasp* moving picture! Now we look for the latest smartphone, big screen tv or microbrewery to forget for just one moment, that freakin' something just doesn't feel right in our very bones and being. We as a human race, can feel that something is up, a big boogeyman is coming, and it's driving the 99% dingdong bonkers! Literally people are going mad!

So, I wonder, could ATS and the 99% find a way to maybe split the topics in 2? Maybe ATS in regions, where you could start in your "home country" with news and goodies and visit any other "home country" you like (UNLIKE in the real world) and get their news and goodies. Still have the ability to comment or post anywhere, as long as it is related of course, and keep the lines open. Or maybe just create another website called realitydoompornATS.com where we can discuss Russia, Ukraine, UK, EUR, Iraq, Iran (and the occasional ufo sighting), basically anything having to do with war and nukes and what not related to the end of mankind. Then there will be just ATS.com with huge meteors, super volcanoes, earthquakes, mall shootings, sink holes (and the occasional ufo and men in black), big foot and chubacabra.

What do you think folks? Am I just going nuts or should we have a place to escape to AND a place to get the real stuff you can't find gathered and collected on MSM or anywhere else?

AAATAAAAACK!

This is a ridiculous idea. There are already too many forums to keep up with.

Interesting proposal, not sure if it will work but I do agree with you that people are looking for ways to forget or to distract themselves from the coming storm which is not good IMO

I dont agree with this idea. It would cater to most people and will leave me and 5 or 6 other people in an empty forum somewhere

The stuff you want is still here just don't click Doom porn topics , just because it's there doesn't mean you gotta look at it.

"Am I just going nuts "

Maybe. You're sure wanting to complicate things. What happens if regular doom porn turns into reality doom porn?

One of the things I find most irksome about this site is choosing which forum your thread should belong in.

There are already 80-odd forums and of course ATS and BTS.

It's like having to separate out all your garbage into the appropriate bins - massive headache.

However, I do like your suggestion that there be nationality-based forums.

I think that's a flyer.

There are loads of small topical issues which are big news over here but would be of little or no interest to US members.

I would have done a lot more threads, but I haven't bothered for this reason.

How do you know until you post them?

Even US members want to know what's happening in the rest of the world. ATS, unlike the MSM, cares about other countries.......especially when it refers to doom porn.

I agree on nothing lost by trying with different stories. I spend a % of every day on non-US sites. I'd probably jump in if things like that appeared more as stories.

As far as new forums, what wouldn't't fit somewhere here now? I love the law, courts and the world of dusty old law books with precedents to discover. No forum covers that though. I've managed to find a couple niche areas, depending upon what case issues are up to be looked at.

All I can say is I agree with 'give it a shot' and see what is actually broken before new stuff would work.

In a word, no.

You see, the things which play into the doom porn problem, are the efforts of the media machine as controlled by various power centres, to divide people, and veil them to the realities of life.

One of the greatest tools that this website provides, is the ability to look honestly at the world, through eyes which have seen all the points of view laid out, with all the available data having been processed, even subliminally, or subconsciously. This broadens ones world view if one has paid the correct level of attention to it, and this allows one to be UNITED with ones fellow members.

You see, although we may all disagree with one another from time to time, and although divisive topics are always going to cause some friction, we are one people, together, with an overarching common cause, that being the denial of ignorance. To sunder the membership between two separate locations on the web, would dissolve that unity of purpose, and I believe that would be an error of a grand scale.

As things stand right now, this is the only place on the internet, where people with totally different views can have identical access to information, and a forum in which to speak their minds, in a well moderated and truly globally relevant fashion. The breadth of topics for consumption, and the juxtaposition of doom with delight, of sorrowful stupidity, with scientific splendour, and political posturing with heartbreaking human interest stories, is unique to this place, as is the staggering quality of its membership as a whole.

I love this site just the way it is, and I consider myself very lucky indeed to be a part of this membership, because I truly believe that it is the best of its kind on the web. Leave it be!

How about we break ATS up into two sections: paranoid right-wing ranting, and actual discussion of unexplained phenomena and conspiracies. Because the former has completely and totally drowned out the latter at this point, and drawn all attention away from the original intention of the site.

You should open up your own site if you dont like the way this one is run

Yin and Yang.

Sometimes you gotta realise life has it's ups and downs, light moments, laughter and some more serious.

Two sites of 'doom' and 'glee' is all a bit too contrived, life is more complex than that.

I think that would be over taxing the staff here at ATS, who already have to run around to keep up with things.

However, I've not seen anywhere near as much "doomporn" on here lately as I have in the past.

Right now I see more political discussions than anything else, mostly as the November mid-terms for the US draws near.

I do remember 2012 however.

Whew! Now THAT was one heck of a year on here. You had the US presidential election and, well 2012! DOOM ON!

But lately? Nah, not a lot of doom.

A LOT of political hate yes. But not near as many doom threads.

Just go back to 2012 and count how many Planet Nibiru threads were created then, hehehehehe.

There's traditionally been a sea of things to ignore on ATS.
I still come here every day, usually twice a day, check the recent threads, to get my news.
The news I get from ATS is fresh, and the topics which I have to wade through is no more difficult than choosing which stories to read.
Occasionally there will be a good conversation going on about something interesting, which is nice.
I drop in to make a comment. My 2 cents.
I'm not a doomy type guy, but I also think there's a lot of bad news because the news is bad.
The doom is real.
We need a place to talk about that doom, we are at that place now.
I don't mind ignoring things that don't require my attention anyway.
It's a very rare thing for me to "fall for" a thread.

Having said all this I would like to add that the number of shallow threads has increased over the years. By this I mean, threads that are merely reporting some event, action or opinion, usually not theirs, followed by, "What does everybody think of that?"

This thread, I think, asks a fair question and is presented well. I still answer no.

Thank you all for your responses. It appears that maybe I have miscommunicated. I am not looking for a way to complicate the lives of ATSers or staff for sure. Simply put, love the sight for 2 reasons, entertainment and information, and would like to see a way to split the 2. Now I understand that what may be entertainment to me could be news to someone else. Perhaps a program that watched my favorites and formed my homepage based on the stories I more frequently read. I know that sounds crazy (again) but for anyone who says "gasp- track your behavior?" I say yea. My behavior is tracked the moment I wake up, by several different agencies i'm sure, and to be honest I could care less. My phone, TV, car, gps, radio and computer are all trackable devices and may provide SOMEONE with info, oh well. Won't change how I act. That's how they win, whoever they are!
