This movie is based on true events.

Based on the #1 New York Times best-selling book of the same name, HEAVEN IS FOR REAL brings to the screen the true story of a small-town father who must find the courage and conviction to share his son’s extraordinary, life-changing experience with the world. The film stars Academy Award® nominee and Emmy® award winning actor Greg Kinnear as Todd Burpo and co-stars Kelly Reilly as Sonja Burpo, the real-life couple whose son Colton (newcomer Connor Corum) claims to have visited Heaven during a near death experience. Colton recounts the details of his amazing journey with childlike innocence and speaks matter-of-factly about things that happened before his birth … things he couldn’t possibly know. Todd and his family are then challenged to examine the meaning from this remarkable event.

The Kingdom of Heaven is Upon Us. Words of Christ, according to the book. Hell and Heaven may be the same place. I've seen them both on this plane of existence.

Pretty good movie, it does make you think. Saw it with the moms when she came down to visit.
I do think you left out a major part of the movie in that the dad is a pastor that loses his faith.
That is part of his struggle throughout the movie in trying to deal with what his son is going through.
His own internal struggle with his faith and what his son is telling him.

I also do not see it as a way of proving heaven and there for proving hell. I don't believe in that statement that if there is a heaven, then there has to be hell.

Well, if it's in a movie it must be true!

Aaaaaahahahahahaha! Oh, save me before I fall off my chair and pee my pants laughing!

Religions are a never-ending source of humor for me and I think that more than makes up for all the destruction it also provides.

I did not want to give away too much of the movie - hoping some will be motivated to watch it.

Many think hell will be around forever and that will not be so. It will be destroyed and everything in it. Heaven on the other hand will be around forever.

Dimethyltryptamine plays a large role in near-death experiences (NDE). Not to push this post or thread into a ToC violation, but dimethyltryptamine can be used as a psychedelic drug. If you care to delve further into the matter, you'll find that dimethyltryptamine is one of nature's simples compounds that is present in nearly every life form. In the event of an NDE, the pineal gland releases dimethyltryptamine into the brain causing strong hallucinations.

To keep with the idea of of NDEs and heavenly experiences, there are Native American cultures who use dimethyltryptamine and similar hallucinogenic agents to communicate with the spirit world.

If you took a bunch of drugs and came out of it saying, "Oh my God! Heaven is real!" would you expect people to believe you? As far as I see it, scientifically, the situations are the same.

I recommend you start wearing adult pampers to keep your pants dry because one day you will not be laughing about this instead running for your life ......as we all will.

Oh! Oh, have mercy! You're killing me!

Good grief, my cheeks are sore and my sides are almost split from too much laughing and that's some good advice about the diapers!

N,N-Dimethyltryptamine ('___') is a naturally occurring hallucinogenic compound of the tryptamine family. '___' is found not only in several plants,[3] but also in trace amounts in humans and other mammals, where it is originally derived from the essential amino acid tryptophan, and ultimately produced by the enzyme INMT during normal metabolism.[4] The natural function of its widespread presence remains undetermined. Structurally, '___' is analogous to the neurotransmitter serotonin (5-HT), the hormone melatonin, and other psychedelic tryptamines, such as 5-MeO-'___', bufotenin, and psilocin.

Many cultures, indigenous and modern, ingest '___' as a psychedelic drug, in either extracted or synthesized forms.[5] When '___' is inhaled, depending on the dose, its subjective effects can range from short-lived milder psychedelic states to powerful immersive experiences, which include a total loss of connection to conventional reality, which may be so extreme that it becomes ineffable.[6] '___' is also the primary psychoactive in ayahuasca, an Amazonian Amerindian brew employed for divinatory and healing purposes. Pharmacologically, ayahuasca combines '___' with an MAOI, an enzyme inhibitor that allows '___' to be orally active.[7]

As stated above in TRACE AMOUNTS. I believe people who take Dimethyltryptamine from an external source - like most people who experiment with this drug - do indeed have a "psychedelic trip" like many various native tribes around the world but we humans do not generate enough Dimethyltryptamine to experience this "psychedelic trip".

You will find specialist on the fence with this issue some agree while others don't. It is speculation and theory only.

If heaven is real send me to hell, because I don't want to be around most of the people who say they are going to heaven for eternity. Besides, I am always cold, even in 100 degree weather. In hell I could finally get warm!

With that attitude I am sure you will have no problems getting into hell. You will no longer have to worry about getting cold again.

You just said yourself that specialists are on the fence. That means there are smart people who would agree with me too. So no offense, but regardless of your belief, your ability to copy and paste paragraphs of text means nothing. And trust me, you do not need much of the stuff to go sailing into a world that is unlike anything you could ever fathom.

The fact that it is produced at all in an NDE is what matters. And since the effects are so similar to that of an NDE, it's far more likely that these heavenly experiences are the result of hallucinations.

At the same time however, I am not dismissing the fact that said hallucinations could be a doorway to spiritual experiences. Natives obviously believe this, and the ancient ones certainly had knowledge that still baffles scientists today. Maybe they still know a few things that we don't, like how to communicate with the spirit world.

Yeah, if god is that petty and childish that we all must quiver before the thought of not being allowed into the cool club upstairs, then let me in downstairs.

Or perhaps you are preaching for the wrong side and don't even know it.

Rewards vs Punishment - is not that the way parents treat their children when they do something good or bad?

I have been punished by my parents and never did I think either one was petty or childish but it sounds like you are.

In the thread about heaven being real, you can't avoid attacking the people that disagree with you....
Is that how your faith teaches to deal with adversity?

Thanks goodness. Truly, if heaven is going to be packed to the rafters with god bothering, annoying hypocrites I am also happy as a clam to spend eternity in the other place.

What's that say about those who say they are going to heaven, when they're driving good and sane people in the opposite direction?

"According to research done by Dr. Narayanan Ning Juan, Dimethyltryptamine is produced by the pineal gland when we are asleep. It is typically secreted in small quantities during REM sleep. Which may be a reason we have such vivid dreams during that phase of sleep.

However, prior to death, it is secreted in large quantities which causes hallucinations, explaining what many people have experienced. This may be, perhaps, a more accurate picture as to why there is a continuity of experience between these highly individual events."

i agree with scojak, the research leans towards NDE's being massive hallucinations.

I have never tried extracted Dimethyltryptamine, but i have tried Ayahuasca(which contains Dimethyltryptamine and is activated when taken with an MAOI), which let me tell you, was life changing. Its hard to describe, nothing compares to it, not shrooms or acid. It felt like i left my body and took a universal trip with my brain. It felt like thousands of thoughts traveling through my head all at once yet i was able to comprehend every single one (my life flashed before my eyes) kinda thing. The colors figures geometrical shapes my brain created where intense as well. So all in all yeah NDE's may very well be a massive hallucination.

Of course not. I am not attacking anyone. Everyone has their own opinion and I accept that.

You appear to be very sensitive and if I offended anyone ......my apologies.

FYI: I use to think like you but here at ATS I have been told you need thick skin if you want to play.

EDIT: It was only humor (dry humor .....maybe)

I never heard that saying before.

BTW I do not know if I make it into heaven but of course I hope that I do! It will be the grace of God and nothing that I did if I make it.
