In March 2013, the notorious “Cannibal Cop” was found guilty by a jury and convicted in a Manhattan courtroom on those charges.

Remember the "cannibal cop" who was jailed....NOW FREE

Dont know what to say here....how does someone walk free with all the evidence and conviction by a jury? And so quickly too?!!

Sucks to be his ex-wife. If having pages and pages of threats of torturing specific people doesn't constitute planning a crime then what does?

Meanwhile they lock up people for owning hentai.

Der.

Must be nice to have a cop out when it comes to this kind of sickness.

Maybe because he didnt do anything wrong? Its hard to convict someone on thought alone.

It does not say that he had pages of threats but that he drew up a list of names and he went over his methods and such with his wide and friends.

From the link in the OP.

"Despite the highly disturbing nature of Valle's deviant and depraved sexual interests, his chats and emails about these interests are not sufficient - standing alone - to make out the elements of conspiracy to commit kidnapping."

Sounds like he knew the law well enough to get away with it. I am sure this will not be the last we hear of him in the news.

Yeah I guess because anime/hentai characters could be considered "young"(even though that's the particular style) it falls under child pornography laws even though no children are involved.

Bizarre laws in U.S.

No wonder we have highest incarceration rate.

I don't know what that one is but as long as the chick looks over 18 then I'm sure you're good. It's not my thing but it just makes me mad that they put people in jail for nonexistent crimes yet this guy says he's going to murder his wife and all is good.

Ha! Says he was ordered to stay at his mom's house. I'll bet she's thrilled to death. Sleep with one eye open... Sounds like this guy was into some kinda fantasy roll playing game spliced with death porn fetish. Evidently that's not illegal per se.

This guy is a former college buddy of a good friend of mine. They went to the University of Maryland together.

My friend has two theories about Gil. Either he completely snapped after college, or he's the scariest SOB you've ever come across because he hid these urges so well. He was a friendly, sociable guy in college, and gave absolutely zero indication that he had these thoughts.

No matter which it was, it makes me nervous to have this guy on the loose. I agree with one of the previous posters--I doubt this is the last we'll hear of him.

When you start making specific plans based on real specific people it is considered a threat and is illegal.

If he was talking online about killing Candy the imaginary hooker in the city of Laugholol then it would be legal and would be considered fantasy role playing.

Boasting about specific actions against specific people or places that you are doing in future is considered planning and threatening. It's against the law.

Ya as sick as everything he wrote about is, he never actually did anything.
I have to agree that you can not lock someone up for what he might do.

Now if he gets his job back as a cop?!
Hell needs to be raised and heads need to roll

Yes scary and your right about it not being the last of him.. the succesfull(if one can call it that) serial killers were always the ones who could hide it(the action and the personality disorder) and carry on..for decades sometimes.

Awesome insult dude. Totally original. I have a feeling everyone here was going to pick up a new hobby without your input.

Ok then where do we draw the line? Do we let pedophiles out too? "he only fantasizes about molesting children, but no actual crime took place".

no es bueno

I would hazard a guess that there have been quite a few conspirators convicted. Sure a heap of them might of had definable tools of the trade around and about, (the means) but what if tools are not a requisite and this dickhead didn't need any except his teeth, and/or any other body bits to carry it out if you see what I mean.
So I guess this another internet thing. I think, the judge has it wrong, almost as if someone had to be eaten first, and it's not quite like it's hearsay, coming from the first party, neither was it as far as I know, an online game.

Being pedophile without acting on it either watching child porn or raping children is not illegal.

Now if you start saying you are going to rape a child then that would be planning a crime. But simply being attracted to children without action is not illegal. There has to be some type of action taking place.
