MA Coalition of Police oppose new gun control bill. Guess why.

Not because they're taking your personal liberty to heart. Not because they feel that MA has gone too far or even that MA has already done 'enough.'

They oppose the new gun control bill because it may adversely affect hiring and would lead to having to terminate officers positions:

... if you are convicted of a misdemeanor that carries a punishment of two years or more, you are disqualified. In this bill it reduces that time to one year. This could negatively impact some of our members who had previously qualified and had no issues in the past. In some cases it could potentially terminate employment. This is the one issue within the bill that has an effect on our membership’s employment.

Nice how they happily ignore laws that infringe on you and me but should a law infringe on a cop? Better yet a due paying cop? Hold those horses, it's time to call your representative!

One more thing, anyone else a little concerned that so many cops apparently have misdemeanors on their record that carry a punishment of up to one year in jail? So many that potentially having to fire all those cops causes the Coalition of Police to spring into action?

That is a disturbing irony.

This answers a few questions as to what is wrong with the cops in the news abusing citizens and killing dogs for no reason.

It would seem the standards of a person applying to become a cop have been lowered, not only in the height to weight ratio but in there criminal past...or present.

That being said you have to wonder if they even give physic tests anymore.

It would seem that a bad cop having been an anomaly is becoming the norm.

In terms of some police have some minor misdemeanors, a bit of real world experience does has some advantage. Knowing what the system is like from the other side can help when relating to people in trouble. While some people do make bigger mistakes than others, I am not aware of anyone who has not made any mistakes what so ever.

Just because someone does not have a criminal record does not mean that they are good, decent people, it just means that they have not been caught. There are many examples of such people and situations passing through these boards at times.

This is typical, if it doesnt fit within their parameters, then its not going to be adopted. Wonder what other bills have been signed into law, with the Police either being excluded, or special privelages

What the cops may be going through should this bill pass is a tiny microscopic part of the bigger problem. A bigger problem that affects all of us except cops, politicians and the wealthy and that is the liberty-crushing half-assed police state we're all living in.

See, if we weren't all living under such absurd laws to begin with the cops wouldn't have anything to worry about here.

Sure, sure, sure, it's not the cops who make the laws. But then: We only Enforce them

And of course the law is the law is the law, except when it isnt.

I don't expect the cops to genuinely care when it isnt their own being affected. That's the whole purpose of special interest groups after all.

It's just funny that all this exclusion and selective enforcement nonsense highlights perfectly how broken and arbitrary Americas legislative system is.

Well said...I read an article the other day on how a guy ordered some plants from China or somewhere not knowing it was an invasive species thus committing a felony.

The problem too is if you try to fight any charges they just trump it up and manipulate it so its worse....and on topic I do find it quite amazing how many cops would be affected by past misdemeanor convictions.

This makes no sense on their part.
Why not just lobby for cops to be able to be criminals, similar to what the Hawaiian police did with hooker favors?
We already know that they are for the greatest part crooked to the core, why hide it?

Very true and part of that truth is that John Q. Public most resembles the frog in the pot of water on the stove. They crank up the heat incrementally so J.Q. doesn't realize he's being boiled to death until its too late and he's too weak to jump out the pot.

At some point however, this may well begin to affect the monied, wealthy elites and that's when they can't convince J.Q. to live and work in the wretched pits of despair that so many of these cities have become. Think about it. A State government makes self-defense with firearm so difficult J.Q. has no choice except to rely on the cops for protection...except, the cops are never around when needed, but are busy harassing J.Q. with non-refusal sobriety check points. So J.Q. finds himself caught in a repetitive cross fire at the convenience store or gas station or Walmart parking lot between the crooks who never gave up their firearms and the mall cop. So, for example, Chicago...what working stiff trying to raise a family is going to work in Chicago?

So what happens then? Well, the government moves the criminals out to the suburbs through its Section 8 HUD housing policies and the crime goes through the roof and J.Q. has to move......again, only this time, he takes a big loss on the sale of his house which has been devalued because the neighborhood has gone to crap.

This scene is being repeated all across the country. Look for example, at what's happening to the typical 4th of July festivities. Used to be held at the County fairgrounds. Now...they can't get anyone to go to the county fairgrounds because of last years beat down flash mob scene. But worse, the cops have adopted a No Refusal Sobriety Checkpoint system for those leaving the county fairgrounds. So you go to see the fireworks, (which you can't shoot off yourself because they've criminalized ownership or use of fireworks at your home), you have a couple of beers, you leave before the flash mob shows up and then you get nailed for DWI.

So what's the deal for 4th of July now? Either people stay home or they get on a Carnival Cruise ship or they fly to Las Vegas where they can party and stumble drunk to a hotel room. Bottom line? This trend is killing local small businesses and fewer and fewer people are willing to show up for work anymore at the workplace in a huge metroplex pit of despair and crime and heavy handed law enforcement. And this goes a long way to explaining the crappy housing market. (this and tax policies, but that's a story for a different day).
