Last night Kiev has denounced ceasefire and we can expect a full scale war from now on.

We held a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. After discussing the situation as Commander-in-Chief I have decided to end the ceasefire.

Protection of the territorial integrity of Ukraine, safety and life of civilians requires not only defensive but also offensive operations against gunmen.

Ukraine's Armed Forces, National Guard, the State Border Guard Service, Security Service received appropriate instructions.

In achieving the objectives of the present protection of territorial integrity are no longer limited ceasefire.

We will attack and we will liberate our land. The end of the ceasefire is our response to terrorists, rebels, looters, all those who mock the civilians who paralyze the economy of the region; who rip the payment of salaries, pensions, stipends; who undermine the railroads, destroy water pipes, those who deprive a normal peaceful life.

What full scale war? Putin seems to have toned down already. Heavy weapons are being used on separatists barely armed with Ak47s. Putin is not even supplying any weapons.

On the otherhand, Kiev has cancelled the ceasefire and EU is warning Moscow that it should bring calm to S-E region. EU should ask Kiev to maintain ceasefire on the other hand.

Atleast some weapons should be supplied to S-E region and then take it a day at a time from there.

Slavyansk, 30/06/14, Strelkov talking about current clashes in the area

a column of military hardware heading towards border with Belorussia, not sure what is the reason for that, unless
they have info about Pro-Russian volunteers from Belorussia entering the area. Not sure what else would be the reason for this.

what I meant with a full scale war is a Kiev's next step. It would probably be more intense use of artillery followed by pro-active use of infantry and moving forward towards cities under NAF control . So far what we have seen was only shelling without any offensive use of infantry by Kiev. They have nothing else to do since there was no advancement at all for a last 2 months. This is going to be a crucial stage of conflict in my opinion. Expect more civilians to be killed
as well at this stage. I still believe NAF forces can resist this offensive, even though outnumbered.

Whats going on in the Eastern border region of Ukraine is not war, its genocide.

Dark times are returning to E. Ukraine: people head down into Soviet era bunkers as ceasefire expires at 7 pm GMT Monday.

Makes you wonder why did EU agreed to sign association agreement with a country in the middle of civil war, close to economic collapse,
with no certain future, deteriorated human rights, the rise of far right nationalism. Makes no sense at all.

Rostov-on-the-Don
is a city in the European part of Russia. It is on the River Don

reminds me of

"Dan shall judge his people,as one of the tribes of Israel.
Dan shall be a serpent by the way,
an adder in the path,
that biteth the horse heels,
so that his rider shall fall backward.
I have waited for thy salvation, O Lord."

It makes sense, as most probably being an associate member of EU, Ukraine will benefit from the common military responsibility and protection given by joint EU forces. Most of the EU members are a part of NATO, hence anyone of them getting into war like situation will trigger automatic response from NATO.

Thus on June 27th, Ukraine unofficially joined NATO. Now for Russia to do anything would be risking an all out war with NATO alliance.

If Russia does not do anything then Ambassador Tuffts, who was behind the 2004 Orange Revolution in Ukraine and now is the new ambassador to Moscow, will try to organize an Orange Revolution in Russia itself and show Putin as a weak and irresponsible leader who should be removed.

Either way, EU wants to go ahead and put more sanctions on Russia if situation in S-E Ukraine does not calm down i.e. surrender by the pro-Russian elements of their cause of own nation or joining Russia.

It seems at best S-E region will be a 'frozen conflict' with lots of tensions or worst can be a civil war risking intervention from the outside parties.

EU will never introduce economic sanctions against Russia as that would equal a suicide.
All these sanctions against individuals are a PR farce. EU is in a bad shape, many members are in massive debts,
unemployment is reaching alarming numbers and last thing they need is to jeopardise economies by introducing
economic sanctions against one of the major partners.
As for NATO, it is a paper tiger in my opinion, scary on the paper with numbers but in reality it is a big
clumsy giant which has never been engaged on a large scale and against decent opponent.
It would be a nightmare to organise and coordinate NATO forces on a larger scale conflict.
We are talking about 28 countries here.
NATO will never get involved in Ukraine even if Russia step in.
One thing is to attack Afghanistan, Serbia, Iraq and completely different thing to go head on with Nuclear superpower.
Ukraine will split into 2 states, no doubt about that. It will never keep its current boundaries.

Nice bit of main stream conditioning there.

Blaming the victims. Blaming Russia. "Frozen conflict" is really a siege laid on the parts of Ukraine that were first to show signs of independence (through referendums) from Kiev. They are being set up as an example to the rest of the country. Like a bully beats a kid on the playground to get all the rest in line.

The victims being cut off from even food and water as they endure military heavy weapons barrages don't want to "join Russia" as you put it, they just don't want to belong to a government ruled by Nazi thugs. Big difference.

This site is useless to get fully informed of the greatest current threat to mankind as the topic was closed by moderator. Why? Pretty soon, the Nazi government in Ukraine, already visiting its nuclear plants, has stated a 'pre-emptive nuclear strike can succeed" against Russia, but Crimea would be next. People just aren't watching, but on Twitter, they are.

The MODS didnt close the thread for petty reasons as you suggest. ALso didnt you hear? Obama said the greatest threat to mankind is manmade global warming. Also ukraines government is not nazi because they do not have majority. propaganda has no place here on ATS.

Other than prolonging the conflict by supplying weapons and may be volunteer man power and putting some economic pressure like gas export prices, importing goods from Ukraine to Russia..................Putin has little other options.

On the otherhand, Kiev is flying high on the support of the West...........to atleast stick around tough and wear the elements out. When separatists see only likewarm support from Russia, soon sentiments will change and revolts will calm down, this is the hope of Kiev junta. They have strong backing from West in that if Russia sends in its troops then EU and others will throw in strong economic sanctions on Moscow. Taken on development by development basis, even military support can be considered.

1200+ people have perished, many more injured and lots of regions without basic every day supplies like water and electricity. Moscow's options are tough here.

Land grabbing used to be Soviet and pre-Soviet tools in world geo-politics. West does not go around grabbing lands. West makes itself attractive enough for people to run to them, even at the cost of leaving their skilled professions and washing dishes in Western capitals................something Ukrainians are very willing to do.

Moscow should not focus on land grabbing or bribing with economic aid, to win allies. Russian becoming a thriving growth economy will have many nations and mainly CIS countries wanting to run East and make alliances..........while shunning off others from the western direction.

Corruption, capital flight, too much wealth in few hands, crime and thus resulting emigration, population decline, not-diversified economic revenue sources etc..........rooting these out should be focused upon with much higher intensity and focus.
